The weather was lovely, and Victory Park was filled with folks for Albion Service Day on September 12. Albion Lions continued with their Community Foundation-funded project to keep the bridges over the river in good shape, as well as the benches in the area. The wood always needs work, but this is one of the many lovely spots in Victory Park, frequented by walkers, bicyclists, and nature lovers. See you there behind the big pavilion or entering along the river on Erie Street. Pictures include Lions members Vivian Davis, Mark Robison, Cris Solis, Harry Wilson, Michele Wilson, Mary Slater, Dick Lewin, and Tony Groulx.

The Albion Lions Club is pleased to announce that they received a grant from the Community Foundation's Riverfront Development and Environmental Fund in the amount of $799.72.

During the last two years, Lions Clubs celebrated their centennial with "Legacy Projects." With the approval of the City of Albion, the Albion Lions undertook beginning the refurbishing of the bridges and bench behind the large pavilion in Victory Park. The Park is a gathering place for family reunions, "Swingin' at the Shell," one of the best disc golf courses in the country, school groups, three-on-three basketball, tennis, kayaking, and walking. Victory Park is a treasure for the community, but it requires a good bit of maintenance. The Albion Lions have always had an affinity for the park and have planted trees there in the past. Because the Albion Lions are officially twinned with the Lions in Noisy-le-Roi, France, and they had received our support in replacing the trees that were destroyed in the straight-line-winds at Versailles, they sent money to buy and to plant new trees. The Albion Lions next project was to re-stain and refurbish (replace some planking) the three bridges and the bench as the Kalamazoo River cascades through the park. Given the harshness of winter and a cool last summer, the Albion Lions did not finish their refurbishment. This work will be the completion of that project.

Saturday, October 19, 2019 was our District's annual Fall Conference and Parade of Checks. Wow! What a great time! The Halloween costumes were a hoot! Especially 1st Vice - David Anderson AKA Richard Simmons! District Governor Mike Scott was Jake from State Farm, and 1st lady Sharon was Flo from Progressive! We also had a box - yes a box!, a lion, a Mrs. Claus, witches, and several others who participated in the costume wearing! Mr. Kind was there who provided a RAP about being more kind - who by the way is from the Jackson group by the same name. Jef Johnson from Flint provided a program on conservation - I believe everyone was very impressed with him!
Total brought in just that day (other clubs will be sending in their checks) was $36, 970.00! Way to go Lions!

Albion Lions participated in the Festival of the Forks by bringing in the Sight Mobile to check the eyesight of adults and children and to do diabetes screening. Peg Griggs, president, worked with Al Lairson to set up the KidSight trailer for testing. Pat Stiff and her husband assisted, as well as Teresa Gest. Barb Baggerly did diabetes testing. Corinne and Mayor Dave Atchison drove their jeep bedecked with glasses and a stuffed lion in the hatch back. Lion Susan Conner drove her '83 Mazda to support getting out the vote, and Dick Lewin and Mary Slater (Lions) drove the Eiffel Tower in support of Albion's Sister City relationship. The local Albion Lions are also twinned with the Lions Club in Noisy le Roi, France. A good time was had by all.
