Hey everyone,
I hope this finds you well and that you're continuing to log solid miles on the trails. As we wrap up 2025, I wanted to reach out with some important updates about the Ignite Trail Series events coming up in 2026.
First off, let me talk about what we've got planned for the Indiana Trail race in October 2026. The Ignite Trail Series has built something special here at Chain O'Lakes State Park over the years - Indiana's only 100-mile trail race, with all proceeds going directly back into the park for trail maintenance and improvements. The support from this community has been incredible, and we've been able to add 10-12 miles of new trail and purchase equipment that keeps these trails in great shape.
Big News for Indiana Trail 2026:
After a lot of consideration, we've made the decision to eliminate the 75-mile distance from the lineup. But here's where it gets exciting - we're adding a 150-mile race option. That's right, a true ultra-distance challenge that will test even the most seasoned runners among you.
This is going to be a test run for 2026, so we're capping it at just 25 spots for this inaugural event. The 150-miler will start on Friday, October 9, 2026 at 6:00am and will have a 54-hour cutoff, finishing at noon on Sunday, October 11, 2026 - right alongside the 50 and 100-mile finishers. We think this will create an amazing atmosphere with runners at different stages of their journey all coming together at that Sunday finish.
Registration for the 150-mile race opens on Christmas Eve - so mark your calendars if you want to be part of this first-ever event. With only 25 spots available, I expect these will go fast.
The 50-mile and 100-mile races will continue as scheduled, maintaining their reputation as a Western States qualifier for the 100 mile race with the world-class volunteer support and race organization you've come to expect from us.
Glacial Esker 6-12-24 Hour Trail Race:
Our spring timed event is set for April 25-26, 2026 at Chain O'Lakes State Park. Registration is currently open for this one. You'll be running a 3.55-mile loop for 6, 12, or 24 hours depending on which distance you choose. With the aid station at the start/finish line and the scenic course through the park, it's a great opportunity to push your limits early in the season. We've got the same solid support crew and that extra 1/8-mile out-and-back in the final 30 minutes if you want to add some mileage to your total.
Ignite Trail Marathon:
The Ignite Trail Marathon is scheduled for later in December 2026. You'll be running a 13.1-mile loop once for the half marathon or twice for the full marathon. This event has previously been the RRCA Indiana State Championship Race, and we're proud to have local Cross Country teams helping staff the aid stations as fundraisers for their programs. Registration for the Ignite Trail Marathon will also open on Christmas Eve, so you'll have a couple of opportunities to sign up for races that day.
I'm really excited about where the Ignite Trail Series is headed. These events wouldn't be possible without the incredible volunteers who work tirelessly on trail maintenance and at aid stations, sometimes for 30+ hours straight. If you're interested in volunteering for any of these events, please reach out to Kate Wright at [email protected].
As always, remember that registration closes approximately one week prior to each event, and we don't offer day-of-race registration. No deferrals, refunds, or transfers - but you can switch to a shorter distance before the deadline.
If you have any questions about any of these events, please don't hesitate to reach out. I'm happy to discuss the 150-mile race format, the course details, or anything else you need to know.
Looking forward to seeing many of you out on the trails in 2026.
Let's make it a great year.
Thanks & have a wonderful holiday season,
Nick
