Albion Lions formed in 1977 with 32 members In 1977, Lions International focused their efforts on sight, hearing, and Diabetes programs (prevention, education, and eradication).

Albion Lions have assisted these efforts with financial contributions toward local, district and international projects and programs

Albion Lions annually purchase several pair of glasses for those in need and without financial means

Albion Lions annually participated in hosting the Albion Field Days. Our activities expanded from holding an auction to include a 50:50 drawing, white elephant tables, BEANO, whoopie pie sales, a baked bean contest, a tractor-drawn hay ride, etc.

Albion Lions have sponsored and produced numerous variety shows and musicals such as Oklahoma, Brigadoon, The Music Man, The Sound of Music, and Grease

Lions assisted the Town by installing and lighting the flag pole and planted trees at the former site of the IOOF Hall lot, adjacent to the Town Office

Lions have assisted the local Boy Scout, Girl Scout, and Cub Scout troops financially and by helping individual scouts with their Eagle Scout projects, such as tree plantings, the sign at the Albion Elementary School, and the walk bridge behind the town office

Albion Lions have cleaned, painted, and made financial contributions toward renovations to the Municipal Building

Lions have assisted the local Boy Scout, Girl Scout, and Cub Scout troops financially and by helping individual scouts with their Eagle Scout projects, such as tree plantings, the sign at the Albion Elementary School, and the walk bridge behind the town office

Lions have purchased many of the folding chairs, the chair rack, and several tables used in the large meeting room

Albion Lions were instrumental through hosting organizational meetings several years ago which led to the establishment of the Lovejoy Health Center in 1988

Albion Lions sponsor several Police Athletic League (PAL) sports teams

Albion Lions sponsored a Sunday afternoon Jazz concert at the Elementary School

Lions conducted a town-wide Fire Safety project with the AVFD to check smoke detectors and batteries. We distributed new smoke detectors to those homes without them

Albion Lions helped organize, conduct, and judge the Cub Scout’s Pinewood Derby races

Lions periodically recognize residents of Albion for volunteering and for their donation of time and energy to local projects

Lions have contributed to a sense of community by serving residents of the community by loaning our chairs and tables, helping them move, and assisting the elderly at the Town’s annual clean-up day

Albion Lions have been active in many community functions such as participation in the annual Fire Department vs. Lions softball and volleyball games.

Albion Lions have co-sponsored the Lions “Speak Out” program with the Clinton Lions Club

In 1977 Albion Lions held an evening of “Dinner and Traditional Christmas Music” to benefit SLATE, the organization raising funds for the Williamson Performing Arts Center at Lawrence High School. Several other Christmas dinners have been held since.

Albion Lions “Make a Difference Day” project in 1998 entailed a major interior painting project at the Lovejoy Health Center.

In 1999 the “Make a Difference Day” project saw major painting of the entryways to the Town Office as well as interior walls. We did another major painting project around 2011.

For several years, Albion Lions held dinner theaters in conjunction with week-long Field Day activities

In 2001 the club’s “Make a Difference Day” project saw the installation of shutters on the Lovejoy Health Center. Some Lions members assisted in painting the fire station

For a few years Albion Lions hosted a monthly Cribbage tournament

Albion Lions have supported the Albion Public Library with contributions of manpower and finances

Albion Lions provided financial assistance and manpower to the Albion Elementary School and its PTA for the construction and rehabilitation of the playground

In its early years, Albion Lions held several Red Cross blood drives

Also early on, Albion Lions provided chicken BBQ’s at Maine Farm Days

Albion Lions have contributed toward numerous events and activities at Lawrence High School, including its athletic teams, booster clubs, chemical free New Years and Senior graduation parties, and out-of-the-country trips by individuals and groups in pursuit of expanding their educational opportunities

Albion Lions made significant contributions of finances and manpower to the Albion Athletic Association during the construction of the athletic fields in town

Lions sponsored a “Meet the Candidates Night” in 1992, the first year Albion went to the Australian Ballot form of voting

For several years, the Albion Lions co-sponsored, with the Lovejoy Health Center, an area-wide flu shot clinic for the elderly, vaccinating 400 annually, against the possibility of getting the flu

In November Albion Lions host a very complete, sit-down Thanksgiving dinner for all citizens over 70 years or those living alone

For many years the Albion Lions have organized, financed, and provided a “Christmas Giving Tree” project which provides 15-25 needy families and 50-70 children with gifts of clothing, boots, and toys

Lions have sponsored numerous public suppers and dances to raise funds for specific projects or to replenish its charity accounts

In 1992, Albion Lions hosted a Hunter’s Breakfast

Albion Lions sponsored and participated in hearing clinics with other area Lions clubs at Thayer Hospital’s F. T. Hill Center

In times of need, in the past, Lions have assisted elderly by shoveling snow from their roof

More recently Lions members have assisted in screening children entering kindergarten for hearing loss

Albion Lions purchased and installed a supply closet in the kitchen

In a few past, Albion Lions held provided a BBQ dinner at Maine Farm Days

Lions assembled to assist local firemen pick up fire hoses and clean equipment following a prolonged, major fire in town, in the past.

Lions have provided financial support for the elementary school’s “Honors Program

Albion Lions sponsored the Quest program at the Elementary School

Albion Lions have made financial contributions to the local Historical Society in its quest to save and renovate the old Narrow Gauge train station in Town. Lions also invested its time during a “Make a Difference Day” to paint the station

During a mid-western drought several years ago, Albion Lions loaded donated bales of hay on to rail cars at the Waterville Yard

Lions made a significant contribution to the AVFD’s Rescue Sled

Albion Lions got clearance from the Town and CMP to attach American Flags to utility poles along Main Street

Lions host a “fun run”/walk each year at Field Day

For the several years, Albion Lions hosted an ice fishing derby on Lovejoy Pond. The purpose was to get children interested in fishing, nature, and out-of-door activities

Lions have made several significant contributions to the local Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, especially its holiday turkey drives.

For many years Albion Lions have annually given scholarships to students from Albion, graduating from Lawrence High School

Albion Lions have held several spaghetti dinners, profits from these have gone to the Field Day Committee.

Did you know??!! Albion Lions Club has a program to assist people with the purchase of eye glasses and hearing aids who are in need of financial help. We help people of all ages who live in Albion or an adjacent town with no Lions Club. If someone needs financial assistance, please contact our Eye Glass and Hearing Aid Chairperson: Gail Drake or message our page and we will connect you. If you need assistance and live in another town that also has a Lions Club please connect with them for assistance!

Our 2025 Christmas Giving Tree Project has come to a successful close! This year, we were able to help 17 families, serving a total of 45 children. Through this program, families received Christmas gifts including clothing, toys, and toiletries, along with a large box of food for each household.

We extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone in our community who made this possible whether you selected a gift from the tree, purchased items through our Amazon list, made a monetary donation, wrapped presents, or helped distribute gifts today. This project truly would not be possible without the generosity and support of our community.
