Our Story

The Ministry of Concern grew out of the Migrant Ministry committees of the churches in Orleans & Genesee Counties in the 1950’s, a time when the seasonal migration of the farm workers to this area was high.

When farm mechanization reduced the need for hand labor, summer migration gradually declined. Many workers and their families resettled in our area where they faced new problems. To meet year-round needs the committee formed the Genesee Orleans Ministry of Concern, Inc. to work with farm workers and all economically poor people living in the two-county area. The organization was incorporated in June 1968.

Today, the Ministry of Concern provides assistance to help those facing crisis and/or economic and social challenges when no other resources are available. The agency staff act as community advocates by identifying gaps in existing services and working with other organizations to develop needed services and address community problems that impact the poor and working poor.
