CAJA of Marshall County Court Appointed Juvenile Advocates in Marshall County, Alabama Today, CAJA continues to train volunteers to stand up for the children of Marshall County.

CAJA volunteers are appointed by a Judge to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in court in Marshall County. They independently and comprehensively investigate the child’s circumstances; facilitate community services for the child and family; provide a written report to the court; and monitor the case to ensure compliance with the court orders. In 1997, CAJA (Court Appointed Juvenile Advocacy) Board of Marshall County graduated its first class of volunteer advocates and Juvenile Court Judge David Evans swore them in as Officers of the Court.

Unfortunately, children find themselves in a court room more times than they should. In Marshall County, there is a designated room for them to wait while their cases are being heard. Court proceedings can last several hours, making for a long and exhausting day for children and their caregivers.

CAJA has taken on the project of updating this room, with the hope of completing it before the end of 2026! Our goal is to create a space that offers a sense of calm and comfort for children who need that desperately.

We have an Amazon Wish List of items to help bring this space to life, and we’ve already received some amazing donations. Thank you to everyone who has purchased something from the list or shared our posts to help spread the word!

Our community never ceases to amaze us with the ways you show up for these children, and we have faith that this time will be no different. 💚

If you’d like to help us get one step closer to finishing this room, you can find our Amazon Wish List here:

💙❤️ Annual CAJA Volunteer Appreciation Dinner ❤️💙

CAJA has many working parts, all interdependent upon one another. From the staff to the Board of Directors, and from supporters to the volunteers themselves- it takes the combined efforts of all of these committed individuals to bring our mission to life.

Last night was a beautiful evening filled with everyone who makes CAJA the force that it is. Everyone pictured, in some way, pours love into this program, and that love covers each child that we are able to advocate for.

To our Board of Directors, thank you for keeping our doors open and our wheels turning.

To Judge Mastin, thank you for your unwavering support, which empowers CAJA to make a great impact in the lives of the children we advocate for.

To Melody Evans, thank you for your lifetime of work fighting for children who needed it most. Thank you for advocating for our advocates. We know this isn’t the end of your impact, here’s to the next chapter. 🥂

To our volunteers, thank you for every hour, every mile, every conversation, every tear you’ve spent on your advocacy for such a vulnerable and unseen population. You are their voice. You make the difference. You are the boots on the ground. You change children’s stories for the better. ❤️

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight 🌟

Cindy Sparkman has been a CAJA volunteer since 2023, and if there is one word we would use to describe Cindy’s service, it would be committed.

Cindy chose to volunteer with CAJA because she has always enjoyed working with children. But her role as a CAJA volunteer has given that love for children a deeper purpose: being a voice for a child who may not otherwise have someone taking the time to truly know them, their family, their circumstances, their concerns, and their wishes.

When we asked Cindy what the best part of being a CAJA volunteer is, she said:

“The best thing about being a CAJA volunteer is feeling like I am contributing to ensuring the children I work with end up in a safe and caring environment. It isn’t always easy, but I know all of our CAJA volunteers make a difference in the lives of children.”

Cindy doesn’t just say yes to the work, she consistently shows up for it. She is thorough in her cases, intentional in getting to know the children she advocates for, and relentless in making sure their voices are heard.

Her heart for serving others is evident in so many areas of her life, from teaching Sunday School to serving on mission trips. We are grateful that she has chosen to bring that same servant’s heart to the children of Marshall County.

Three years in, Cindy continues to show us what it looks like to faithfully show up for a child.

Could you be the person who shows up for a child who needs an advocate? Apply to volunteer through the link below. ❤️

"The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members." - Coretta Scott King

On Sept. 15, Marshall County proved how truly great it is. During the 29th annual Day of Caring, more than 300 volunteers adopted 50 service projects across the county, providing vital services and supplies. Employees at 28 local businesses and organizations hosted a Casual Day, donning green Day of Caring T-shirts to show their support for United Way and our partner agencies.

We were excited to start the day with more than 430 friends at the Day of Caring & Campaign Kick-off Breakfast at the Boaz Parks & Recreation Center!

THANK YOU to every volunteer, company, group, and individual that chose to be part of this special day!

Shout-out to CF Media for the amazing breakfast photos!

Progress Rail pours into our community. 💛

We had the opportunity to share CAJA’s mission at their agency marketplace this week.

Through their generous donations to United Way of Marshall County - Alabama, agencies just like ours are able to receive support and continue serving the people who need us most.

Children are given voices.
Those experiencing homelessness are given shelter.
Victims are given a way out.
Families are given hope.

We’re fortunate to be part of this partnership and thankful for every individual who chooses to give and invest in our community!

CAJA volunteers are not reimbursed for their gas when they visit their children or attend hearings on their behalf. You and your group can help cover their costs by collecting gas gift cards for the Day of Caring!
