We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable corporation in the State of Montana. Our mission is stated in the "More" section below.

Our goal is to share the resources of Brovold Community Orchard with the citizens of the greater Alberton, Montana area. Our Mission: 1) Provide free or low cost fruit to area residents, with an emphasis on helping lower income families; 2) Provide youth and adult education on topics related to orchard maintenance and natural resource management; 3) Provide day-use recreation opportunities in the orchard; and 4) Provide a venue for small community events.

Thank you so much to everyone that came out for today’s workday!! We can’t maintain an orchard without you!!! We hope to see you again in June, 2nd Saturday if the month, 9-Noon with a light lunch following for volunteers!!

We would like to gratefully acknowledge a product donation from Haus & Garten to Brovold Community Orchard. Included are three pairs of ClassicPRO bypass pruners and one pair of PowerPRO loppers. Haus & Garten makes and sells tools for horticulturists, arborists, orchardists, and gardeners that are among the highest quality in the world. They describe their mission as follows: "We believe that caring for your home and garden is an expression of love and care for yourself, your family, your community, and our planet. We exist to equip you with the tools and knowledge you need to cultivate a thriving home and garden." Haus & Garten's mission is so compatible with our own that we are natural partners. Thank you Haus & Garten for helping us make the lives of our western Montana friends and neighbors just a little bit more "fruitful".

🌳 A Special Tribute at Brovold Community Orchard 🌳

Friends, many of you know we’ve been working hard these past few years to replace old and declining trees throughout the orchard. What you may not know is that the world‑famous Montana Ferret Ambassadors — Frog and Junior — have been supervising every step of the work.

Earlier this year, they were deeply inspired by an incredible act of kindness from Stubby the Ferret, a beloved character from the children’s book series My Name is Musky. Stubby helped fund a prosthetic leg for a woman in the Dominican Republic — a beautiful example of service and compassion.

That spirit of giving reminded Frog and Junior of the orchard’s mission: caring for our community, just as Old Papa intended when he planted the first trees here.

Sadly, Stubby crossed the Rainbow Bridge earlier this year. To honor his legacy, Frog and Junior asked the orchard to dedicate a tree in his memory — a Freedom Apple, symbolizing Stubby’s own journey to freedom and the hope he inspired in others. Our wish is that Stubby’s tree will continue to promote service, community, and education for years to come.

We invite you to visit the My Name is Musky page. After hearing about Stubby’s “Freedom Apple,” they generously donated to support the orchard’s work, and we are so grateful.

And to our educators: if you’re interested in teaching your students about ferrets, animal welfare, or community service, please reach out. We would love to have your class visit and read the Musky books beneath Stubby’s Freedom Tree.

We had a small crew for today’s workday - but we got a whole lot done!!! All trimmings and branches removed from the orchard, 11 new trees mulched, and several rock piles cleaned up!!! Then lunch by Jeanne was amazing!!! Thank you so much to all those that were able to attend! We hope to see you next month, 2nd Saturday of the month, 9 am to Noon!! Stay a while or just for a bit - whatever you are able to do helps us immensely and we are all greatly appreciative!!
