REMINDER: Teachers in Albert Lea Area Public Schools: Teacher grant applications are due June 20, 2026!!

Did you know that the Education Foundation of Albert Lea serves the teachers of District #241 by providing grants for individual or school projects of up to $500 each through an annual application process? Grant applications are reviewed by the Foundation board and school leadership. Awards are then announced at the beginning of the school year at the districtwide meetings.

Teachers receive an email announcing the applications in the spring and can submit their application on-line to the Foundation. If you would like further information on the application, you can find more information here: https://aledfoundation.org/grants-scholarships-for-teachers/

In addition, special requests are considered multiple times each year for projects. Some of these have included funding for student field trips to the Rendezvous, Journalism conference, Kindness retreats, yearbook costs for students, etc.

The teacher requests are reviewed over the summer. Special requests are considered throughout the year and reviewed at the Foundation board meetings. The board meets six times per year.

The Education Foundation had the privilege to participate in the awarding of scholarships at the 2026 Albert Lea High School Scholarship program last evening. Thank you to the individuals, families and organizations that entrust the Education Foundation with the funds to award these scholarships. We will post photos of those students who received a scholarship through the Education Foundation and who wished to have their picture taken. Thank you to Jessica Hatland and the high school staff for supporting these and the many scholarships for the students of Albert Lea Area Schools.

Did you know that the Education Foundation of Albert Lea serves the students of Albert Lea by managing the disbursement of 25+ scholarships to graduating seniors?
These scholarships were established through donations by a wide variety of organizations and individuals to serve our graduating students.

Work of the Foundation in the next few months involves the review of scholarship funds that have been entrusted to the Foundation for distribution. We work closely with ALHS to ensure information on these scholarships is funneled to students and parents.

The Mission of the Education Foundation of Albert Lea is to serve the students in District 241 by identifying educational needs and creating financial support. The current board of directors meet six times a year to discuss the foundation work and goals. The board establishes the Foundation goals and objectives, solicits donations, directs investments of funds, and in general oversees all operations of the Foundation.

The board works in cooperation with the District 241 Board of Education to ensure that the activities of the Foundation are consistent with the District’s goals and policies.

The Albert Lea Education Foundation will host the 2025 ALHS Hall of Fame Reception to be held at the Wedgewood Cove on Saturday, October 4, beginning at 5:00. Inducted this year will be:
Gary Jacobsen-1962, Ken Stauch-1965, Tom Phillips-1985, Erik Johnson-2000-Patsy Slegh-1973, Gretta Melsted-1994, Mark Simmonds-1976, and Larry Goodnature-1971 (athlete); 1992-2018 (coach), and the 1974 Volleyball team.

The Pathways to Success reception held at the Cove on October 10th was well attended. Our honorees represented the spirit of success very well and contributed to our District's mission. It is never too early, go to our website and present our Pathways committee with candidates for next year. The possibilities are nearly endless.
