🚨 ACTION ALERT: A nationwide BOOK BAN BILL has been introduced in Congress: H.R. 7661. If passed, it could censor LGBTQ+ voices, especially transgender people, and force schools across the country to remove books from their libraries.

H.R. 7661 would label any literature or materials referencing “gender dysphoria or transgenderism” as “sexually oriented material.” The bill would then deny federal funding to schools that include these books in their libraries, pressuring educators and librarians to remove stories that reflect the real lives and experiences of transgender and nonbinary students.

Public schools should be places where young people can learn, explore ideas, and see themselves reflected in the stories they read. But this bill threatens that principle by using federal funding as leverage to control what books students can access.

Your member of Congress needs to hear from you NOW. Contact your Representative and tell them to OPPOSE H.R. 7661 and protect the freedom to read!

“Tonight’s State of the Union address left many people worried about what the future might hold. Our country needed a message of unity, safety and a shared path forward, but we got a message of fear, division, and hate. ..That’s why we’re fighting back.
PFLAG members, supporters, and chapter leaders across the country are creating spaces of belonging where people can grow into who they are without fear...We will continue to do that work, as well as advocate for policies and practices that respect the dignity, safety, and full participation of LGBTQ+ people of all backgrounds. Because when every person is valued across races, places, and genders, families, communities and our nation are stronger.”
—Brian K. Bond (he/him), CEO of PFLAG National

Voting while trans can come with extra barriers. Advocates for Trans Equality (A4TE) has created a helpful "Voting While Trans" guide that explains voter ID laws and how to prepare, because democracy should work for everyone.

Regardless of whether you have ever had trouble voting in the past, this year, voter ID laws may make it harder for many trans people to vote. Even if you have the required ID, the new laws may encourage additional scrutiny toward and bias against trans voters. It is important that every trans perso...

Why Is the “L” First in LGBTQ?

It wasn’t always.

For many years, people commonly said “gay and le***an” or used “GLBT.” But during the AIDS crisis in the 1980s and early 1990s, something profound happened.

Gay men were dying in staggering numbers. The government response was slow. Stigma was rampant. Families often turned their backs.

And le***an women showed up.

They volunteered in hospitals. They organized care networks. They delivered meals. They raised money. They advocated fiercely. They donated blood when gay men were barred from doing so.

They stepped into the gap with courage and compassion.

In response, many activists began intentionally placing the “L” first — not as a ranking, but as a gesture of honor and gratitude.

It became a symbol of solidarity.
Of community.
Of showing up for one another when it mattered most.

That shift reminds us of something we hold dear at Real Mama Bears:

Movements are strongest when we care for each other.
Love is resistance.
And together, we can change the world.
