Recruiting volunteers is important. Keeping them engaged matters just as much.

This month’s FASNY Recruitment & Retention Roadmap resource, the Firefighter Burnout Self-Check Worksheet, helps volunteers recognize signs of burnout and identify when it’s time to check in and seek support.

A stronger crew starts with taking care of your people.

Volunteer firefighters across New York dedicate themselves every day to protecting their communities.

This new legislation, passed by both houses of the New York State Legislature, provides meaningful financial relief to help offset the rising costs volunteers face as part of their service.

With 80,000 volunteer firefighters statewide, this legislation represents an important investment in the people who help keep our communities safe.

The legislation now sits with the Governor for action. While she has until the end of the calendar year to act, FASNY is urging her to enact it without delay.

Help support New York’s volunteer firefighters by contacting the Governor through FASNY’s VoterVoice and sharing the campaign with your family and friends.

FASNY joined firefighters, families, state leaders and members of the fire service today in Albany for the 29th Annual New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony.

The names of 53 firefighters were added to the Memorial Wall this year, bringing the total number of New York firefighters honored to 2,871.

On Firefighter Appreciation Day, we pause to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and the families, friends and fellow firefighters who carry their memories forward.

Fire Prevention Week™ is Oct. 4-10. This year’s theme, “Charge Into Fire Safety™. Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” reminds us that simple charging habits can help prevent lithium-ion battery fires.

Remember with lithium-ion batteries:

> Store and charge batteries in a cool, dry location
> Disengage the battery from tools before placing into storage for extended periods
> Do not use batteries with visible damage or cracks

For more Fire Prevention Week resources, safety tips and social media tools visit the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) at nfpa.org.
