Hands on training took center stage at FASNY’s 154th Convention as Chief Thomas Basher Jr. led firefighters through a car over the embankment rescue evolution.

The low angle scenario focused on patient care, team coordination, decision making and efficient system setup.

The next generation of the volunteer fire service was celebrated tonight at FASNY’s 154th Convention during the Gerard J. Buckenmeyer Memorial Scholarship Casino Night.

Guests enjoyed dinner, dancing, raffles and casino style games including 3-card poker, blackjack, craps and roulette, all while supporting a great cause.

Congratulations to this year’s 25 scholarship recipients, each selected from nearly 100 applicants and awarded $1,500 for their commitment to their departments, communities and education: Caitlyn Armendola, Old Forge Fire Department; Carisa Benjamin, Haines Falls Fire Company; Brody Chapman, Eaton Fire Department; Christopher Chenier, Wendelville Fire Department; Payton Dempsey, Windham Hose Company #1; Mallory Dodge, Verona Volunteer Fire Department; Gabriella Ferro, West Babylon Fire Department; Eric Hammond, Village of Geneseo Fire Department; Chloe Hatch, Rushford Volunteer Fire Department; Colin Hess, Patterson Volunteer Fire Department; Brendan Horn, Vestal Volunteer Fire Department; and, Emery Kaltenborn, Hastings Volunteer Fire Department.
