It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the California Sherpa Association extends its deepest condolences on the passing of beloved Mr. Serab Sangbo Sherpa on August 19, 2025. He was a man of remarkable spirit and immense wisdom—the respected father, the Yapla of H.E. Trungram Gyaltrul Rinpoche, and the father of our association's founding treasurer, Ms. Karma Tsering Sherpa. His legacy is woven into the very fabric of our community through the dedication of his children.
A figure of great spiritual significance, Yapla was known as the only nephew of the second reincarnation of the famous Patrul Rinpoche. As the only son of his brother, a Vidyadhara lineage holder, Yapla was trained and installed as the teacher at the Shorbugang Hermitage. He dedicated his life to the practice and study of numerous teachings, engaging in retreats and studies according to both Nyingma and Drukpa Kargyud traditions. His commitment to his faith and his role as a spiritual guide touched many lives.
We are truly grateful for his contributions and the profound impact he had on his family and community. We offer our heartfelt prayers and support to his family during this difficult time. May his journey be peaceful, and may his wisdom continue to inspire all who knew him.
