How can a six-year-old be capable of such violence? While there is never an excuse for these actions, incidents like this should force us to look beyond the act itself and ask how we can identify warning signs and intervene before tragedy occurs.

Children learn from the environments around them. Behaviors are observed, reinforced, and often carried into their interactions with others. This is why strong partnerships between law enforcement, schools, families, and our communities are so important.

SROs and Juvenile Officers are more than a presence in our schools. They are trusted adults, role models, and resources who can help identify concerning behaviors, connect students and families with appropriate services, and intervene before a situation escalates.

Preventing school violence is a shared responsibility. We cannot wait until something happens to ask what could have been done differently. We have to recognize the warning signs, communicate, provide support, and work together to protect our children and our communities.

Prevention begins with connection, communication, and action.

These are things that you can see all the time at small convenience stores or gas stations. Educating parents and kids is the only way for people to know what can happen with these products.

Some 7-OH products are marketed for anxiety relief and sold at gas stations, convenience stores, smoke shops, and online. Colorful, candy-like packaging can appeal to kids and teens.

Don’t be fooled by misleading claims. Talk to your kids. Know the risks.

With it getting darker and darker earlier as the year goes on, its a good idea to amend sure that if your walking or biking to have reflective/bright colored clothing on to be seen better.

Safety in the dark starts with being seen. 🚴‍♂️🌙

⚫ Wear bright or reflective clothing
⚫ Use a white front light and red rear light
⚫ Make sure your bike has reflectors

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Pink Patch Project is here to help bring law enforcement and the community together to raise breast cancer awareness and funding to help local families fighting cancer.

With 1 in 8 women in the US at risk of developing breast cancer, it’s an issue that affects every community.

Throughout October, members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Corrections and Road Patrol divisions will be sporting pink badges or patches and helped raise awareness and funds for local families battling cancer.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Pink Patch Project is returning for a 4th year to help bring law enforcement and the community together to raise breast cancer awareness and funding to help local families fighting cancer.

Community Engagement Officer Regina Andrews is proud to head up the initiative this year!


With 1 in 8 women in the US at risk of developing breast cancer, it’s an issue that affects every community.


In the first two years of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Pink Patch Project, the BCSO family raised over $11,00 for local families battling cancer through contributions and sales of patches, badges and other custom merchandise.


Throughout October, members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Corrections and Road Patrol divisions will be sporting pink badges or patches and helped raise awareness and funds for local families battling cancer.


Community members can lend their support to the Project by visiting the online store to purchase a t-shirt, sweatshirt, patch, or other items. (Link below)


All proceeds go to local organizations to support local families fighting breast cancer by assisting with groceries, childcare or other expenses related to the fight against cancer.

“We are proud to continue this effort for a 4th year and continue highlighting how our men and women of law enforcement go the extra mile for our community, even when their shift serving and protecting the people of Broome has finished,” said Sheriff Fred Akshar. “Thank you to all our community members who have continued supporting this effort over the past 4 years.”
