📚🦕 We had so much fun at the Schenectady Public Library's Raising a Reader Baby Shower, a 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten event!

We featured early literacy kits that connect directly to the library's growing collections of decodable books from Express Readers Inc. Families also explored a dinosaur-themed literacy game from our new Path to Literacy: Dinosaurs Family Literacy Packet alongside Digging Up Dinosaurs from Half-Pint Kids Inc.

One of the biggest hits was a phonemic awareness game featuring alphabet buckets donated by Lakeshore Learning, where children practiced listening for beginning sounds while sorting miniatures.

We also shared decodable books from DOG on A LOG Books, information about our educational partners, and literacy resources available through the Literacy Library Online Community.

It takes a village, and we are grateful to our amazing educational partners and committed library partners who help families discover that learning to read can be both joyful and effective.

We’re excited to share our conversation on the Literacy Across Languages podcast with Katherine Nelson and Mary Sandoval.

Beth Bevars and I had the opportunity to discuss how public libraries can serve as community literacy hubs, supporting families, educators, and beginning and striving readers through Science of Reading-aligned resources, decodable books, family engagement, and multilingual literacy support.

We talked about:
✨ Supporting literacy development beyond the school day
✨ How libraries can help connect families to evidence-based literacy resources
✨ Supporting multilingual learners while honoring home language and culture
✨ Why community partnerships matter in addressing the literacy crisis

We’re grateful to be part of this important conversation and thankful for the libraries, educators, and families doing this work every day.

We’re excited to announce a new partnership with Dreams KC to support Science of Reading–aligned literacy work in Kansas City through public libraries.

This collaboration brings together DREAMS KC’s deep community relationships and commitment to families with Teach My Kid to Read’s national literacy hub model, librarian training, implementation support, and Literacy Library platform.

We’re especially excited about the opportunity to work alongside the Kansas City Public Library to help expand access to decodable books, family literacy support, and evidence-based resources that empower both librarians and caregivers.

Thank you to DREAMS KC for their partnership and vision. We look forward to working together. 📚💙

Exciting news from DREAMS KC! 📚

We're partnering with Teach My Kid to Read (TMKTR), a national organization that helps libraries and communities build Science of Reading–aligned literacy hubs. Their work includes training, implementation, family engagement, and a platform called Literacy Library that supports librarians and families.

Our partnership brings TMKTR's national model into Kansas City through DREAMS KC's local leadership and community reach.

We're hoping to begin with the Kansas City Public Library, where our decodable book investment and parent literacy training will pair with TMKTR's resources to support more families across the system.

Every child deserves the tools to become a reader. We're proud to be doing this work alongside Teach My Kid to Read. Learn more about TMKTR at teachmykidtoread.org.

We tabled at the Earth Day event at the Radix Center today, and it turned into one of those wonderful afternoons.

Kids walked through a StoryWalk of Jax & Ren Find a Box… and then got to make their own magic boxes. There were books, questions, conversations, and a lot of decodable books going home. Simple, hands-on, and right in the community.

Next StoryWalk: The Wish, by Whole Phonics. Stay tuned!

This is why we do this work 💛

This past December, we spent time at the Schenectady County Public Library with families, librarians, and community partners, supporting children as they learn to read.

There’s something powerful about seeing it all come together: books, guidance, and interactions between adults and children.

Libraries continue to be one of the most important places families turn when reading isn’t clicking, and we’re honored to support that work.
