The City Club of Albany, Inc. A Brief History:

In February 1919, with Miss Elizabeth M. Smith the first president, the City Club of Albany was formed. Its objective was to form an organization of women whose main purpose would be the civic improvement of Albany. The objective of the Club's constitution- "...to bring together persons interested in government at all levels, advancement of public we

lfare and to further intelligent participation in political or civic matter of local, state, national and international scope"

The City Club aided in founding the Traveler's Aid Society, the Legal Aid Society, the Foreign Policy Association and a Business and Professional Women's unit. Prominent women of the City Club included: Mrs. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Herbert H. Lehman, Mrs. Thomas Dewey and Mrs.. Charles Poletti. The City Club of Albany continues to participate in civic matters and to support various projects on behalf of the school children of Albany.
