Northern Rivers Family of Services

Northern Rivers Family of Services In 1829 when a child needed help, the community called on us. Today when a child needs help, the community still calls on us. Some things never change.

We are a family of human services agencies providing help and hope to those who struggle with abuse, neglect, trauma, mental health challenges, educational difficulties, employment, and service navigation. But other things do. In 1829 we provided a warm bed, a good meal, and a safe place to grow up. Today we’re working to end the stigma around mental health care and help those in our care become h

ealthy, happy, self-sufficient adults. Today the help we provide might be telemental health counseling provided by a professional 100 miles away. It might be a family receiving a host of integrated services to help keep their child safe. It could be the support a young adult needs to find and keep the first job they’ve ever had—and it still could be that warm, safe place to live while a child heals and grows. Northern Rivers Family of Services hasn’t just changed with the times. We have led a service delivery revolution to meet the varied, changing, complex needs of children, adults, families, and communities. People still come to us for care, but now we prioritize going out into the community to help, providing services in homes, schools, even the neighborhood coffee shops. We’re coordinating care, bundling services, and developing comprehensive treatment plans that don’t just treat the symptom; we work to address the reasons people need help in the first place.

After more than four decades dedicated to the success of every student who walked through the doors of one of her schools, Kris Youmans is retiring from Northern Rivers at the end of this month. Kris joined our family as a child care worker in 1985 and continued to work her way up until she became Chief of Education and Superintendent of Schools for Northern Rivers in 2013.

She has been a leader, a mentor, and a friend to so many over the past 40 years, and she leaves our Education division in a position of strength, hope, and opportunity. Join us in thanking Kris for her dedication and service!

We welcomed a great group of Albany Law School volunteers to our Albany Campus as a part of their pre-orientation Lean Into Success program. These students showed up to help paint and take care of the grounds so that we can continue to provide beautiful spaces for the children and families we serve. Thank you to all who participated!

Over the past two weeks our Albany High School summer science students worked together to construct popsicle stick bridges. Each classroom had to plan, design, and build a bridge with the goal of creating a structure that could hold the most weight.

Congratulations to our winners: Room 12, whose bridge held an impressive 91 pounds, and Room 4, whose bridge held an incredible 147 pounds! A special shout-out to all students who participated for their hard work, creativity, teamwork, and determination throughout the challenge. Great job, scientists!
