Horseracing Wrongs is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Our mission: Educate, advocate, and take decisive action to bring an end to horseracing.

Join the movement for a kinder, safer world for horses. Our mission is to end the cruel horseracing industry through grassroots advocacy. We believe that the use of horses for entertainment and profit is unethical and inhumane, and we are committed to working toward a future where all horses are treated with dignity and respect. We work to educate the public about the many ways in which the horseracing industry abuses - from forcible separation, to intensive confinement and isolation, to drugging and doping, to buying and selling, to whipping - and kills: about six horses die at U.S. tracks every single day. Through outreach and community engagement, we are building a broad-based movement that brings together individuals and organizations from diverse backgrounds. We believe that together we can create a more just and compassionate world for horses - and all animals. Five-year-old Vogue Blue Chip suffered a horrific death while being transported to the Windsor Fair on August 31st. His leg fell through the floor of the trailer transporting him, and he was dragged along the road before arriving at the fairgrounds fatally injured. He was euthanized shortly afterward.

Witnesses reported that motorists tried to get the driver, owner/trainer Stanley Whittemore to stop for over two miles. After finally stopping at the fair's gate, Whittemore was seen kicking Vogue and using a shovel to try to force him to get up, despite his leg being trapped beneath the trailer.

The Maine State Harness Racing Commission imposed a $1,000 fine and one-year suspension—a punishment for conduct “detrimental to the sport.”

We've contacted the district attorney and the Maine State Police and asked them to investigate Vogue's death under Title 7, Section 4011 of the Maine Cruelty-to-Animals statutes. Vogue was just five years old. His death was horrific. And it was preventable.

Last week, at least 15 horses were injured in U.S. races and removed from the track by “equine ambulance.” Their fates are unknown—for now. Through our FOIA reporting, we expect kill confirmations for many, if not most. 💔

And there were others: Tap the Arches "fell, DNF" at Charles Town, while at Laurel Park, Sheilahs Warcloud “returned visibly bleeding from nostril”.

These are the daily cruelties of horseracing. Horses deserve better. Horseracing must end. 🚫🏇

Tarzan’s Niece is dead. The 3-year-old was “pulled up, transported off in ambulance" in the 4th race at Monmouth Park on September 13th. Her death has since been confirmed.

She was listed “For Sale” on the very day she was killed. Philip Robertson, Castillo Consulting, Juan Avila, and Angel Morales were among those responsible for her.

A beautiful, intelligent, sensitive being—bred, bought, sold, raced, and ultimately killed. This is horseracing. 💔

"But it was.. it was dying. And it was in respiratory distress as it lay there. So that was sort of a weird.. a weird one." Dr. Ross, Senior Veterinarian of Oregon Racing Commission

Four. That’s the number of days the Tillamook County Fair in Oregon races horses each August. Four. That, according to the Racing Commission, is the number of horses who died during this year’s edition. That’s horrific enough: The lives of four beautiful, intelligent, sensitive beings snuffed out for lousy $2 bets and cheap entertainment. While they did not identify the victims, we have confirmed that one was Jaded Secrets, who, says the chart, “took a bad step and fell” on August 8th.

Yesterday at Laurel Park, this for Twisted Filigree: “fell after sustaining a catastrophic injury approaching the stretch then was euthanized on the track.” Dead, at five.

Twisted’s race was run in absolute slop. In fact, there were only three horses out there, with seven having been scratched. This goes beyond the normal peril in which these horses are placed every day. Negligent equinicide at a minimum. Here are his final moments.

Horseracing Wrongs has documented – with names, dates, locations, and details – almost 13,000 kills at U.S. tracks just since 2014. Our research indicates that some 1,800 racehorses perish across America every year. 1,800 – that’s about five dead horses a day. 💔

And to be clear, death at the track is neither clean nor tranquil. Death at the track is cardiovascular collapse. Death at the track is pulmonary hemorrhage – or bleeding out from the lungs. Death at the track is blunt-force head trauma from collisions with other horses or the track itself. Death at the track is broken necks, severed spines, ruptured ligaments, and shattered legs – occasionally shattered so severely that the limb remains attached to the rest of the body by skin or tendons only. Death also comes back in the stalls with things like colic; laminitis, excruciating inflammation in the feet; respiratory infections; neurological disorders; parasitic infestations. Sometimes, the necropsy simply reads, “found dead in the morning.” This is horseracing. 🚫🏇

Just two days into the “new and improved” Belmont Park, 4-year-old Heat Missile was killed after suffering a “biaxial fracture with fetlock joint luxation" during the 2nd race yesterday.

Earlier that day while training at Saratoga, 3-year-old Fulmine, pictured below, was “injured at the wire after breezing…euthanized.”

Two horses killed in one day. And this is the industry New York is spending hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to support. Two days into the new Belmont, and the killing continues. End horseracing. 🚫🏇

During Belmont Park's $455 million taxpayer-funded rebuild, 84 horses were killed during on-site training and within the stalls. 💔

The construction of the "new and improved Belmont Park," funded by New York State taxpayers, began in July 2023 and has come to a conclusion with its re-opening today. Despite being closed to spectators and no racing occurring, horses being trained and stabled on the grounds perished.

But the cruelty of horseracing goes far beyond the killings: horses are bred as commodities, separated from their mothers as babies, pushed into training while their bodies are still developing, confined within 12ft by 12ft stalls, controlled with restrictive equipment and whips, and bought and sold throughout their racing "careers."

The nearly $455 million Belmont rebuild was financed through a state-backed loan, while New York's horseracing industry continues to receive hundreds of millions of dollars in annual public subsidies. A new Belmont Park doesn't change the cruelty or killing inherent to horseracing.

84 horses killed during the rebuild is 84 too many. End the subsidies. End horseracing. 🚫🏇

Tripadvisor is taking a stand against animal cruelty—and that’s worth celebrating. ❤️📢🐴

Tripadvisor now warns visitors searching for American racetracks: “This business does not currently meet Tripadvisor’s Animal Welfare Policy.” And this isn’t limited to small tracks. The warning appears on pages for some of the biggest names in racing, including Churchill Downs, Saratoga, and Del Mar.

Tripadvisor’s policy specifically excludes experiences where domesticated animals are put at heightened risk of injury or death for sport or entertainment—including horse racing.

The racing industry may not like it. But as racing bettor Jon Stettin recently acknowledged, this isn’t PETA or Horseracing Wrongs putting that warning on racetrack pages. It’s Tripadvisor—a global travel platform—recognizing what more and more people outside racing are beginning to see.

Racing can’t dismiss every critic as someone who “doesn’t understand the game.” The public is asking increasingly difficult questions about breakdowns, horses being injured and killed in front of spectators, and the slaughter pipeline.

Tripadvisor didn’t create these problems. It simply put a warning label on them. And that is progress. Thank you, Tripadvisor. The times, indeed, are changing. ✊🏼❤️

After more than a century of abusing and killing horses, Hawthorne Race Course is officially closed.

The track’s bankruptcy and closure leave the entire Chicago area without a single racetrack. Once a thriving circuit, the region has now lost Sportsman’s, Maywood, Balmoral, Arlington—and Hawthorne. Illinois is left with just one track: Fairmount.

As we previously reported, Hawthorne’s collapse is another sign of a failing industry. The list of shuttered U.S. tracks continues to grow—and so does the movement to end horseracing. 📢🚫🏇
