We work to educate the public about the many ways in which the horser

acing industry abuses - from forcible separation, to intensive confinement and isolation, to drugging and doping, to buying and selling, to whipping - and kills: about six horses die at U.S. tracks every single day. Through outreach and community engagement, we are building a broad-based movement that brings together individuals and organizations from diverse backgrounds. We believe that together we can create a more just and compassionate world for horses - and all animals. The chart for Albuquerque's 9th race on Sunday simply states that Nine Degrees “lost rider, fell.” But the race footage tells a far more brutal, devastating story.

Nine Degrees was just 2 years old — a baby forced into a cruel, dangerous, and deadly industry.

A life reduced to a few words in a race chart. 💔🐴

Five-year-old Sharmin was killed during a Race 8 at Laurel Park on Friday. 💔

According to the official chart: “Sharmin unseated her rider when beginning to duck out leaving the 3/16, veered out sharply colliding with an outrider’s pony, sustained a catastrophic injury and was euthanized on the course.”

While racing publications focused on a jockey's cut lip, Sharmin lost her life. Another horse dead in the name of gambling and entertainment, another victim quickly forgotten by an industry that profits from her exploitation. This is horseracing. 🚫🏇

Our Maryland Organizer and Board Member, Jennifer Sully, shares a poem in memory of Hit Zero and the countless horses who have suffered and died within the horseracing industry. 💔

Parx is one of the deadliest tracks in the US and we hand wealthy horse owners a $200M taxpayer subsidy every year because this industry can’t stand on their own two feet.

We wonder what horseracing will look like when their money is taken away?

Since 2009, Horseracing Wrongs has confirmed the deaths of 2,039 horses at New York tracks. Today, the Belmont Stakes, serves as a reminder of the cruelty and bloodshed inherent in the horseracing industry. 💔

Horseracing is solitary confinement for 23 hours a day. Tongue ties and metal bits. A $2 bet on someone's life. Horses raced to death or sent to slaughter.

How many more horses must die before we take a stand and demand an end to this cruelty and killing? The "pageantry" of the Belmont Stakes is no excuse to turn a blind eye to the suffering of thousands of innocent animals. Far too many 4-, 3-, and 2-year old horses have been maimed and destroyed for the sake of a $2 and frivolous "entertainment". Don't watch. Don't attend. Don't gamble. Boycott the Belmont Stakes. 🚫🏇

On the eve of the Belmont Stakes, the NYS Gaming Commission disclosed two more kills at New York tracks. 💔

Last week, Shiny New Object broke her humerus at Saratoga and was euthanized where she lay. She had just turned two in February and was being prepped for her very first race. The next day at Belmont, five-year-old Aggelos the Great “collapsed and died at the 3/4 pole.” Two more innocent lives destroyed for nothing more than a $2 bet. 💔

Two unidentified horses were killed in a head-on training collision at Parx on Saturday.💔

The racing industry and media have focused on the injured rider, while the deaths of the horses have been treated as an afterthought. This is the reality of the racing industry; another day, another dead horse. Last year alone, 39 horses were killed at Parx.

Join us this Saturday from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Parx Racetrack as we stand up for the horses and speak out against horseracing cruelty and killing. 🚫🏇

Another day, another dead racehorse. 💔 According to the chart for the 1st race at Gulfstream Friday, Holy Spicy “went bad nearing the quarter pole…and had to be euthanized.” She was three years old. In her penultimate race – just 13 days prior – Holy Spicy finished 9th, 14 lengths back.

These are the final moments of 4-year-old Valid Connection’s life. According to the official chart, he “took a bad step nearing the wire, suffered a catastrophic injury and was euthanized on track.”

Moments before the breakdown, jockey Michael Pagan struck Valid three times with the whip. After crossing the finish line, Valid was dead. His connections had listed him for sale for just $3,200 before the race, and, because he finished before his death, they still collected prize money. This is criminal animal cruelty. 🚫
