Sierra Club Hudson Mohawk Group

Sierra Club Hudson Mohawk Group The Sierra Club Hudson Mohawk Group was founded in 1974 and has been dedicated to preserving, protecting and helping our members enjoy nature.

We have many conservation issues in which we are directly involved and others in which we play a supporting role. This provides our members with many volunteer opportunities for involvement in one way or another. This includes such actions as communicating with lawmakers about proposed legislation, contacting and educting other Sierra Club members about activities and getting involved at the groun

d level to protect natural areas such as forests, wetlands and bodies of water. Please contact us with any questions you may have at (518) 210-5294 We will update this site continually to accommodate our many members, keep you informed and hopefully get you involved in our activities to Explore, Enjoy and Protect the Planet!

Albany, NY, hosted two No Kings Day rallies: one at the Capitol and one on Central Avenue. Thousands attended. I think this says something about how fed up people are with our government. Let's hope we can make a difference. Photos by Virginia Boyle Traver and Roger Gray.

Hello friends,
Many people have asked for a Sierra Club response to the New York Times article of November 7, 2025, entitled "The Sierra Club Embraced Social Justice. Then Tore Itself Apart." We apologize for not having access to share this article with you, if you have not already read it.

Here is the link to what Loren Blackford, our Sierra Club Executive Director, has to say:

I know many of you are reeling right now, inundated with questions from friends and supporters who read the New York Times article. Some find the article to be a vindication, a wake-up call, or a learning opportunity. I strongly believe in the importance of learning from what has worked and what has...

Dear All:
This is the 6th year in a row we have come together and taken a few days to reflect on what a beautiful country we have. The mountains, our oceans, our forests, from the tropics to the artic, the U.S. really does have it all.
Our annual fundraiser bike ride from Albany to NYC during earth week starts Wednesday 4-23. Our goal is to raise awareness and much needed funds for our environment. For 4 days we get to ride 200 miles while we enjoy the beautiful Empire State Bike Trail. All funds raised will support the Sierra Club, a 4 star charity navigator rated non-profit. Your support is welcome and very much appreciated. We all have a stake in keeping our country’s forests and oceans clean and safe. What we don’t protect can easily be lost. We can do this. And you all can participate as well.
If donating money is not right for you at this time, you can still contribute greatly by making sustainability a priority in your own lives. And if none of this works for you, then please spread the word and tell others about our trip. We all have a part to play, and we can all make a difference.
Fingers crossed for good weather! Let’s all join in and do something good for our planet this year.

Earth Day is Monday, April 22!
For more than 130 years, the Sierra Club has been a powerful force, advocating for our planet, our communities, and our future. As we dive into Earth Month, let us harness the spirit of community and action that defines us. Our mission is not just a statement; it is a call to mobilize, a commitment to safeguard our shared home.
Throughout April, we are amplifying the many ways our volunteers, grassroots activists, and each of us here at Sierra Club help our communities explore, enjoy, and protect the planet. We will be bringing to life the tangible impact of our work, showcasing how every small step contributes to a brighter, greener future for all. And it is going to be a team effort.
We are in the business of getting America outdoors. Together, we are empowering millions to connect with nature and working to close the nature equity gap. During Earth Month, we will be spotlighting the work of our Outdoors for All campaign – including the Transit to Trails initiative – and our Chapter Outings (Local Outings and Inspiring Connections Outdoors).
We are also encouraging volunteers, staff, and supporters in every region of the country to help us unify and amplify our voice and speak as one Sierra Club. Our teams have collaborated to create a robust toolkit we all can use to align our work and messaging this month. The toolkit lays out a blueprint of our themes for the month and provides key resources for anyone interested in uplifting the Sierra Club’s Earth Month efforts.
