FACTS ABOUT FREEMASONRY

* Masonry is a FRATERNITY, not a RELIGION.
* IT is the BIGGEST FRATERNITY in the world, and probably, the OLDEST.
* We BELIEVE in GOD.
* We DO NOT WORSHIP Lucifer, Baal or the devil.
* We DO NOT SPIT on the cross, WALK on the CROSS, or drink blood from a Skull.
* NO ATHEIST can become a mason.
* We OPEN with utmost care and respect the HOLY BIBLE (for Christians, or the Quran if you're a muslim) before we start a stated meeting and close it after the meeting.
* We PRAY BEFORE and AFTER every IMPORTANT UNDERTAKING of our LODGE.
* We DO NOT discuss POLITICS or RELIGION in an open stated meeting because they are the MOST DIVISIVE SUBJECTS and we DON'T WANT DIVISION in the fraternity as much as possible. Its part of the reason why our craft has endured this long.
* It's all about TRUTH , RELIEF and BROTHERLY LOVE.
* Notable HEROES and NATION- BUILDERS around the world, including a significant number of the HEROES of the AMERICAN REVOLUTION and those of the PHILIPPINE REVOLUTION were MASONS.
* The FIRST PRESIDENT of AMERICA Gen. GEORGE WASHINGTON, was a Mason.
* The FIRST PRESIDENT of the PHILIPPINES, Gen. EMILIO AGUINALDO or G*T. ANDRES BONIFACIO, (whatever thought you may follow) were masons.
* The FOUNDING FATHER of SINGAPORE, Sir STAMFORD RAFFLES, was a mason.
* WINSTON CHURCHILL, Britain's PM during the war was also a mason.
* Several GENERALS during the AMERICAN CIVIL WAR on BOTH SIDES were masons.
* Several GENERALS now in the ARMED FORCES OF THE PHILIPPINES, other Uniformed Services and a number of current SENATORS, CONGRESSMEN, and local politicians are masons.
* Many SIGNIFICANT PROFESSIONALS, BUSINESS LEADERS and even ACTORS and ARTISTS around the world, BOTH LIVING or DEAD, are/were masons.
* Some SCIENTISTS and ASTRONAUTS are masons including Buzz Aldrin, one of the first two men to land on the moon.
* JOSE RIZAL, ANDRES BONIFACIO, MANUEL QUEZON were masons.
* Most MASONS are CATHOLICS, METHODISTS, CHRISTIANS, and also MUSLIMS.
* There are NO MASONIC LODGES in COMMUNISTS and other UNFRIENDLY COUNTRIES.
*HI**ER hated the masons.
*THE KU KLUX KLAN hates the masons.
*We are NOT a SECRET SOCIETY. Rather, a brotherhood with SECRET CODES. Codes we use to distinguish our own from the pretenders, and NOT TO BRING A NEW WORLD ORDER.

We are fed up of all the lies and conspiracies about our brotherhood. SO IF YOU ARE A BROTHER MASON who encounters these fabrications and misinformation about our beloved fraternity, help us correct them and not dismiss with chuckle just because they're not true.

With God, the Great Architect of the Universe as our witness, and our honour as better men our unbroken bond, we should fight the good fight for the truth. ONE FOR ALL and ALL FOR ONE under THAT ONE RING...The MASONIC RING.

More Than Ritual

Is Masonry more than Ritual? Masonry is not, or at least should not, be defined by its ritual, but rather amplified by it.

Though Masonic Ritual is not the most important responsibility of a lodge, it should be performed well out of respect for the candidate and the fraternity. His initiation should be a memorable experience for him, remembered for how expertly and professionally it was conferred. It should inspire him to achieve such a level of knowledge and skill.

A Masonic Degree should be an impressive demonstration to a candidate that introduces him to the symbols and lessons that Freemasonry teaches. It is merely an introduction, though, it should not have to try to stand on its own.

So many of our lodges today exist only to practice the ritual and confer degrees. Our monthly Stated Communications have become little more than a nuisance. They are a necessary technicality to pay the bills and unanimously vote to accept nearly anyone willing to fill out a petition with a pulse; as long as they are the right color, religious denomination, and sexual orientation.

We confer the Entered Apprentice degree as soon as possible after voting to accept a man, hoping to get him before he changes his mind or learns all of our “secrets.” We don’t spend any time talking with him about the rich history of the fraternity before initiating him, setting expectations for the night of the degree specifically, or Masonry as a whole generally, and we do not make sure that both Masonry is a good fit for him and he for Masonry. We do this because we need his money and we need to add another body to our membership rolls, and we can use his live degree as another chance to practice the ritual.

As soon as the new Brother receives his first Charge, we start encouraging him to learn his catechism as fast as he can so we can come back next month and do it again. His head is swimming with questions, but he trusts that all his questions will be answered once he gets his next degree. This cycle repeats a couple of more times with the same Brother while simultaneously starting from the beginning with a new prospect.

At some point in his short Masonic journey so far, that new Brother most likely asked the question “what is Masonry” and was told “it makes good men better.”

Once a new Master Mason is finally raised, often just three short months after being voted on, he may ask himself or other Brothers in the lodge, “what else do we do?” He will probably be told “oh we do so many things. We confer degrees, we practice, we have business meetings and district meetings where we practice the ritual, and we host fund raisers to help pay the light bills.”

The most astute new members will start to wonder pretty quickly “when do I learn how to be a better man?” We tell Brothers “if you want to get something out of Masonry, then learn the ritual.”

How does practicing the ritual, conferring degrees, and paying the bills help me to be a better man?”

The three degrees are largely meaningless without the context of the historical lectures given at the end. The candidate sitting in front of the Master receiving a 20+ minute lecture after an hour-long degree about information he has never seen or heard of before has very little chance of gaining anything of useful importance. He will barely remember much else besides the act of taking his obligation by the time he wakes up the next morning. He may decide to stick with it and start learning the catechism which will help him remember a few more of the details of the experience. Even after spending time studying the ritual and re-reading the lectures in our textbook, he may still wonder how this is supposed to help him be a better man.

Some Brothers come to this realization very quickly, others take months or years to realize it. Unfortunately, some of us never realize or question it. Some of us question it, but never seek to find an answer.

The Brothers who realize quickly that all we do besides pay the bills is focused on the ritual are very likely to become disappointed and discouraged. Some new members recognize this before ever advancing to the second degree. Without anything else to offer, we risk losing them before they are ever Raised. How many Entered Appreciates and Fellowcrafts do we have on our rolls that we will likely never see again because they are not getting what they thought out of the fraternity?

Why do we put so much emphasis on Masonic ritual and little else? I would argue that it is because that’s all most of us have ever seen and all that we know. Many of us have grown content with the status quo and, even though we would like to do more, we don’t know how or where to start. Unfortunately, some of us do not even want anything else out of Masonry other than what we are already getting.

What about those of us who are not capable of learning the ritual, for whatever reason? Are we destined to never get anything else out of Masonry? Is it then hopeless that Masonry will teach us how to be a better man? If so, why didn’t anyone tell me this before I wasted my time and money.

What else is there to Masonry besides the ritual? What else could we be doing to engage our members and teach them how to be better men? What have we done to become better men ourselves? Are you a better man?
