Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is not just a moment in history. It’s an ongoing journey toward justice, healing, and well-being.

At MHANYS, we honor the resilience, brilliance, and contributions of Black communities while recognizing the importance of equitable access to mental health support, spaces for rest, and opportunities for joy.

Today, and every day, we celebrate Black liberation, uplift Black voices, and reaffirm our commitment to building communities where everyone can thrive.

Join us in reflection, celebration, and collective care at one of our upcoming events: mhanys.org/upcoming-events

Thank you to our Spring 2926 Intern, Krystal, for reflecting on her journey with MHANYS and inspiring future interns!

Through her experience, Krystal found reassurance in seeing others welcomed and discovering their own paths. Her biggest takeaway? Realizing she’s not "running out of time" in terms of her career, and trusting that everything will fall into place as it’s meant to.

We are grateful for her dedication and insight. Hear more about her experience at mhanys.org/opportunities

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can affect anyone who has experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. Experiences such as accidents, violence, abuse, natural disasters, serious illness, or other deeply distressing situations can have lasting impacts on a person's mental health and well-being.

PTSD can impact daily life in many ways, including through intrusive memories, heightened anxiety, difficulty sleeping, or feeling disconnected from others. Understanding the signs and symptoms is an important step toward seeking support and healing 🌱

Recovery is possible. With the right treatment, support systems, and coping strategies, individuals living with PTSD can manage symptoms, rebuild a sense of safety, and improve their overall well-being.

Seeking help is a sign of strength, and no one has to navigate PTSD alone.

What an incredible few days at the NYS Department of Health Division of State EMS Mental Health & Wellness Symposium and Fellowship!

The event also marked the kickoff of our next cohort of EMS Mental Health Fellows. On day one, fellows had the opportunity to meet renowned first responder artist DanSun Photo Art, who transformed each fellow into the artwork featured here. A special thank you to the Albany Airport Fire Department for hosting this unique and memorable experience.

Monday's symposium featured an inspiring presentation from Dan, alongside valuable discussions focused on mental health, wellness, and resilience in EMS. Fellowship alumni also took the stage to share their experiences, lessons learned, and the impact of bringing this work back to their agencies.

To close out the three-day event, our newest fellows became certified in Mental Health First Aid for Fire/EMS, adding another important tool to support their colleagues, agencies, and communities.

We are grateful to our partners at the New York State Department of Health Division of State EMS for their leadership and commitment to supporting the wellness of New York's EMS workforce. We look forward to working alongside this new fellowship cohort over the coming year as they continue to build a culture of wellness across the state.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible, including DanSun Photo Art, Albany Airport Fire Department, and our partners throughout New York State EMS.
