A short message from our chairwoman:

Come As You Are!
One question I've heard from some dancers is whether traditional square dance attire is required at Mid-Winter Festival. The answer is simple: No.
Mid-Winter follows the same dress code guidance as the Oregon Federation of Square and Round Dance Clubs: Square dance attire is admired, but not required.
If you enjoy wearing western shirts, petticoats, traditional skirts, or dresses, wonderful! If you're more comfortable in pants, casual clothing, or tennis shoes, that's wonderful too. Hats are welcome, shoes are requested, and the fairgrounds do not impose any specific dress code requirements.
We do ask everyone to be considerate of fellow dancers by practicing good personal hygiene and avoiding heavily scented perfumes, colognes, or lotions.
Most importantly, we want you to join us and have a great time. Friendship, fun, and dancing are far more important than what's hanging in your closet. If traditional square dance attire isn't your style, please don't let that keep you from attending. Come in clothing that allows you to dance comfortably and safely.
As Chairwoman, my biggest concern is that everyone feels welcome, stays safe, and enjoys the festival. We hope to see you on the dance floor!
Square dancing is friendship set to music, and there's a place for everyone at Mid-Winter.
Thanks!

Brooke Davison

Hi all. The festival is unfortunately having to condense the use of the buildings and as such a few things are getting moved around. The biggest move that we wanted to give you a heads up on is Resale Clothing. They will now be located in the back of the vendor hall during the weekend. Come check out this exciting new location starting Friday night! Hope yo see you all at the festival.

Mid winter is hanging out in Roseburg for the weekend. If you want to get your ribbons please come see us at the Barn.

Mid-Winter Festival: A Quick Update from our chairwoman

Mid-Winter has been a cherished Oregon tradition since the early 1960s, and we’re proud to continue bringing dancers together each January. Like many events, we’re feeling the impact of rising costs and changing participation. Our largest expense—the facility for 2027—is nearly $25,000, and while we’ve made thoughtful adjustments over the years, our budget remains very tight.

We are committed to keeping Mid-Winter affordable for dancers. Our ribbon cost remains lower than similar festivals in surrounding states, and we’re exploring other ways to support the budget, including ads on daily flyers and expanding the vendor hall. The committee is very mindful of balancing costs while still delivering a great experience.

You may notice some changes this year as we plan responsibly for the future, but our focus remains the same—quality dancing and a welcoming community. One of the best ways you can support Mid-Winter is by preregistering early so we can plan with confidence.

Registration forms are available on the Mid-Winter website, and our Area Visitation Chairs and committee members already have ribbons in hand. You’ll see us at festivals, special weekends, and dances—please come say hello! We’re happy to share details about the event, our featured talent, and this year’s theme.

Each hotel also maintains its own early check‑in and late check‑out policies and associated fees. These policies are standard throughout the hospitality industry and are set by the hotel, not by the festival.
