A look inside the YOU ARE LOVED POP UP SHOP! A couple months ago, prompted by a negative shift in the social and political climate surrounding LGBGQI justice and rights, I wanted to create an ongoing event that spread love to my local LGBTQI community. The YAL Pop Up Shop is community sponsored, meaning all goods, services and volunteers are from their local community. I want the LGBTQI youth to know that despite what they may hear happening in politics, there are people all around that love and support them. It is also to confront the issue of income based evolution of identity. The way we present ourselves to the world is paramount and can affect our confidence and our happiness. Offering free, good quality, modern and clean clothing, shoes and accessories as well as free haircuts and makeup was my idea to find a loophole in the income based plight of limited access to identity. In a deeper connection to the Transgender community, my hope was that it gave youth access to the gender identity clothing they needed and wanted. I came to this project through a lens of Intersectional Feminism and with that came many times when I learned how much I didn't know, how hard I had to work and how far I have to go to understand how we can be of service. To serve others is the greatest gift. Thank you to everyone who came and let us give. And most of all THANK YOU to my volunteers who were the lifeblood of the event, without you this was just a dream. You made it real, you are my dreams come true. Thank you to Boy & Girls Club of Albany, The Pride Center of Albany, Uncommon Grounds, Infamous Graphics, DJ Touch Onez, Ken Farrell for doing makeup, Amy Rose & Tricia Pleau for doing hair, Llona Hogan & Beth Alexander for their amazing clothing drive at Hattie's Restaurant as well as volunteering at the event and a special thank you to my husband, Greg DeLuis for working tirelessly with me on getting all the clothing ready, all the trips to get supplies and allll the loading and unloading and undying support and love for this event. YOU ARE SO SO SO SO LOVED ❤ I can't wait to do this again. My goal is that YAL spreads to other cities. As many as we can, because there is a need for this everywhere, in every city, in every state. We can do it if we try, and we will try for you ❤
