Albany Black Veterans Association will be a non profit organization where our mission will be to help veterans who are homeless, unemployed, suffering from addiction problems and financial difficulties. Along with our mission, addressing the massive problem of su***de among veterans will also run parallel with our primary goals. We would also like to form an alliance with other minority based orga
nizations to maximaize resources, information and purpose objectives. The non profit organization will assist with but not be limited to, helping all veterans set up an Ebenefits (https://www.ebenefits.va.gov) account and file claims for any disabilities the veteran has. Albany Black Veterans Association will be a place that veterans can come into and access the internet while being assisted in navigating the services available to them along with literature regarding what education benefits and services are available to all veterans. With the recent draw down of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, a large number of returning Veterans are facing physical and emotional recovery, readjustment, economic hardships, unemployment, and domestic problems. Su***de prevention is a critical issue; veterans and their families need culturally competent counseling, peer mentoring, and a safe place to meet in their communities. Our mission however, is to help all veterans male and female of all races, religions and backgrounds. We will focus on helping veterans in Albany, N.Y. and the capital district.
