The Center for Community Insight, Inc.

The Center for Community Insight, Inc. We provide personalized M.A.C.A. Poverty Simulations, and poverty-focused educational programs, and consulting services.

Our Poverty Simulation is approved by the NYS CLE Board for 1 Unit of Diversity, Inclusion and Elimination of Bias (D&I) Credit. Nic, Samantha, and Eileen have been colleagues and collaborators for several years in various capacities. A few years ago we participated in a Poverty Simulation at a conference we were all attending. Blown away by the training, we decided to bring the Poverty Simulation

to Albany. However, after trying to schedule a training for Albany Law School students, we discovered that the training is not generally available to the public, or is prohibitively expensive for many small groups to do. We decided to purchase the training course, become facilitators, and start a nonprofit organization. We want to make the Poverty Simulation accessible to anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of some of the issues facing people who are experiencing poverty and to develop a greater degree of empathy for the poor. We believe that this training will change the way people think about poverty, which will improve the way providers serve the poor and increase access to critical and necessary services for people experiencing poverty. Please visit our website for more information about us, the Poverty Simulation, and how to book a training for your group!

We’ve been dormant since the pandemic because the poverty simulation requires a large group in a tight space to work best. We can’t wait to schedule another poverty simulation soon though!

Our Story

We started this organization to help combat poverty in the Capital Region (NY) and beyond. Our focus is on changing the way providers and policy makers understand poverty through experiential learning tools. We offer customized M.A.C.A. Poverty Simulation courses, taught by a team of diverse attorneys, at affordable sliding scale rates.

We believe the Poverty Simulation can help transform the way participants think about poverty, and deepen empathy for low-income families. We also believe arming providers and policy makers with a greater understanding of poverty will help them serve their low-income clients, consumers, patients and constituents better.
