TEAM SHOUT OUT!
Keep Allie's Wonder Alive- Meet Allie. Alexandria was an awesome, warm-hearted, kind, stubborn, strong-willed girl. We called her Allie for short. Allie came into this world with a bang. She was supposed to be born on Halloween in 2003 and decided to come 11/12/2003 after having an emergency c-section. She was easy to raise. As she got older, we realized that she had so many talents from art, singing, playing instruments, acting. She could do it all and did it well. When she put her mind to it, it happened. She participated in every club, organization her school offered. I always said her brain was to big for her head. As she got older, she and I became best friends. After graduating high school, she started going to HVCC. She also got a job at Freedom First working with autistic children. After graduating from HVCC with her associate's degree, she wanted to continue her schooling and went on to her dream school Russell Sage. While going to school and working, she got register as a RBT (Registered Behavioral Therapist) through her job. After that promotion she was on top of the world. She could not be stopped until 2 days after her 21st birthday when our world crumbled. Tuesday 11/12/24 we went to family dinner for her birthday. Wednesday 11/13/24 her and I went to NYC for the day. We shopped, had dinner...great day. Thursday 11/14/24 I called and woke her up for school and she was having a hard time breathing. So I suggested she call her doctor. Then she started to really feel bad and decided to go the emergency room. I left work and was going to meet her there. And by the time I got there, she was already gone. On her way to the emergency room she suffered a asthma attack, then cardiac arrest, then brain damage set in within a 7 minute drive to the hospital. By the time I got to the hospital, my little girl, our life would never be the same. After spending close to 2 weeks in the hospital (after doing all the recommended testing the doctors suggested) We knew we lost her and that's when we decided to make her a donor. If she could not be with us, let her help others (like she always did). She was young and healthy and ended helping a lot of people in the end. Which is what she would have wanted. Our world crumbled that day but knowing that she is out there still helping people to this day helps us cope.

August is National Minority Donor Awareness Month (NMDAM), a collaborative effort to save and improve the quality of life of diverse communities by creating a positive culture for organ, eye and tissue donation. Sixty percent of patients on the national transplant waiting list are from multicultural communities. The need for donation and transplant is more pronounced in minority communities where disproportionately higher rates of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease contribute to organ failure, especially kidney failure. Dear Davin's Family,

In your darkest hour, faced with the unimaginable loss of your beautiful boy, you made a choice that requires a profound, selfless courage.Thank you for saying "yes" to organ donation. By choosing to give the gift of life in the midst of your own grief, you have answered the desperate prayers of families who were running out of time. Because of your young son, other children are given the chance to grow up, to hit milestones, and to share more precious moments with those who love them. He is, in every sense of the word, a true hero. Please know that your son’s legacy will live on, not only in the lives he saved, but in the hearts of everyone who learns of his incredible gift.
