It’s National Child Passenger Safety Week! 🚗✨

September 20–26 is National Child Passenger Safety Week, a time dedicated to helping families make sure every child is riding safely — every stage, every ride, every child.

To wrap up the week, Safe Kids Capital Region and Albany Medical Center’s Pediatric Trauma Program are joining our community partners for a FREE Car Seat Check Event!

📍 Crossgates Mall Overflow Lot – near JCPenney
1 Crossgates Mall Road, Albany, NY 12203
🤍 Look for the white tent!

Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be on site to check car seats for proper installation, make sure children are riding in the right seat for their age, size, and developmental stage, and provide hands-on education for parents and caregivers.

Please bring your child, their car seat, the car seat instructions, and your vehicle owner’s manual if you have them.

The event is FREE and open to the community — no appointment necessary! Come see us and help us finish Child Passenger Safety Week by making sure our littlest passengers are traveling as safely as possible. 💙

☀️🇺🇸 Larry the Pediatric Trauma Llama wants YOU to have a safe, healthy, and fun Fourth of July! 🦙❤️💙

With hot temperatures and holiday celebrations ahead, now is the perfect time to brush up on a few simple safety tips that can make a big difference.

💧 Stay hydrated – Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
🧴 Protect your skin – Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen before heading outside and reapply every 2 hours (or after swimming or sweating).
🌡️ Know the signs of heat exhaustion – Heavy sweating, dizziness, headache, nausea, muscle cramps, and fatigue are all warning signs. Move to a cool place, drink water, and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.
🎆 Practice firework safety – Leave fireworks to the professionals whenever possible. Keep a safe distance from displays.

A little planning goes a long way toward making this holiday memorable for all the right reasons.

We had such a great time visiting a local UPK program in Cohoes to teach bike and helmet safety! 🚲⛑️

The students learned about the importance of wearing a helmet every time they ride, how helmets help protect their brains, and ways to stay safe while biking. Through hands-on activities and demonstrations, the kids had so much fun learning about safety!

Thanks to the generosity of Harding & Mazzotti, every child in the UPK program received a brand-new bike helmet to take home. We also want to thank Safe Kids Worldwide for providing our coalition with a bike safety grant that helped us bring interactive teaching materials and injury prevention education into the classroom.

We are so grateful for community partnerships that help keep kids safe and make injury prevention education possible! 💙

May is Safe Kids Month! Safe Kids Month is a national celebration dedicated to inspiring parents to take simple steps that help keep their kids safe as they get ready for summer. Preventable injuries are the number one cause of death among children ages 1-19 in the U.S., and millions more are injured in ways that can affect them for a lifetime.

Throughout the month, experts from our nearly 400 Safe Kids coalitions across the country will work directly with children, families, and caregivers in their communities to provide tips, information, and safety devices.
