This morning, in less than an hour the Dougherty County Commission will hold a public hearing to discuss their budget for the coming year—a budget that we can’t find a copy of on their website.

In the short time that I’ve been paying attention to our local government I’ve noticed a pattern of opaque practices around the city and county governments. This is not how these institutions should operate and it’s up to us to stand up and say something about it. If we want to be in the loop (and I do) we need to demand reliable and effective communication from our local governments and their leadership.

The only way to do make those demands is to be in the room where it happens.
