The New York State Forest Ranger Academy’s 25th Basic School graduation was held in Lake Placid on September 29, 2026. We extend our sincere congratulations to the graduating class as they take their oath and begin assignments throughout New York. Their accomplishments reflect the dedication, discipline, and resilience demonstrated during six months of rigorous training.

We commend each graduate and wish them continued success as they begin their careers protecting New York’s natural resources and ensuring public safety. We also extend special congratulations to Ethan Engel, recipient of the PBA’s Stewardship Award, in recognition of his leadership and commitment to his fellow recruits.

Applications for New York State’s 2026 Entry-Level Law Enforcement Exam are due today, September 9. The exam is the first step toward becoming a New York State Park Police Officer or University Police Officer.

Congratulations to New York’s 28 newest Environmental Conservation Officers!

Following an intensive 29-week academy, the class of 26 men and two women graduated at The Egg in Albany and will now begin eight weeks of field training before taking assignments across New York State.

The PBA of New York State is proud to welcome these new officers to the ranks. Their graduation provides much-needed reinforcement for the approximately 275 ECOs currently serving statewide, but continued investment is needed.

With as many as 50 ECOs potentially eligible for retirement within the next 18 months, New York must continue recruiting qualified candidates, retaining experienced officers and holding regular academies to ensure ECOs have the staffing and resources they need to protect New Yorkers and our natural resources.

Congratulations to all 28 graduates, and thank you for choosing a career in public service!
