The Department of New York VFW attends the annual golf outing for The Friends of the NYS Military Museum to support service members from New York who courageously served and sacrificed during the Global War on Terrorism.

Our State Legislative Chairs join our comrades from National at the VFW Fall Legislative Conference on the Hill to advocate for our veterans. They meet with lawmakers to directly deliver VFW's priorities to Congress.

Our new Quartermaster James (Jim) Haas and our new State Adjutant Daniel (Dan) Kell at their first National Quartermaster and Adjutant training over the weekend in Kansas City.

Today we pause to remember and honor those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks and those who worked tirelessly to help with the rescue efforts. There are so many stories.

9.11. 2001- State Commander Jack Sanford is your everyday neighbor. He went to work that day to work his job with the all familier Ferry of New York. When disaster struck, Jack was aware there was a need to help people. He heeded the call to do what was trained so long ago. Analyze… what is needed?
The purpose was simple. Go and help.
In each section of time and devastation.
Go. Help.
Do whatever you can. Direct.

Across waves and smoke… then back. 500,000 people were evacuated across the same waters State Commander Jack Sanford experienced and made sure people got home.

Never forget.

VFW Post 358 - Ballston Spa NY is holding their Stop 22 Walk soon. We hope that everyone in their communities across the state will pull focus to the veterans we lose everyday to su***de. Anyone can join a Stop 22 walk to bring awareness and let our veterans know they are not alone.

Nationwide, 22 veterans commit su***de each day; every September marks National Veteran Su***de Awareness Month.
