Feeding New York State OUR MISSION: To lead a unified effort for a hunger-free New York State.

WHAT WE DO
Feeding New York State leads the work to end hunger by:

*Supporting the ten food banks of New York State by managing statewide grants
*Sourcing food for our food banks
*Partnering with farmers and the food industry to encourage donations
*Fostering relationships with government at all levels
*Partnering with other anti-hunger organizations to ensure every community in New York state has access to good, healthy food
*Educating the public on hunger issues
*Researching and sharing best practices among food banks

It's National Farmer’s Day!

Today, we’re celebrating the farmers who grow the food that feeds New York - and giving a special shoutout to Garrett Williams of NY Fresh in Cayuga County. You may recognize Garrett from the squash he’s holding here, but here’s something pretty incredible: Garrett supplied ALL of the potatoes for the New York State Fair in August this year.

That meant about 40,000 pounds of New York-grown potatoes making their way from his farm to the Fair’s famous $1 Potato Booth. Garrett is a farmer by choice and by family tradition, and he’s growing more than 350 acres of potatoes this year. We’re pretty proud to see a New York farmer putting New York food on the tables - and at the Fair!

Today, we celebrate Garrett and farmers across our state who work hard every day to grow the food we all depend on. Without farmers, we have no food. Happy National Farmer’s Day!

The New York City Marathon will take Tyler Beck hundreds of miles away from his farm in Freeville, but the reason behind his run starts much closer to home.

Tyler is using his marathon journey to support Fill A Glass With Hope® and our food banks’ work to provide nutritious milk to families in our communities.

Through our partnership with American Dairy Association Northeast, Miles for Milk is bringing together dairy farmers, hunger relief organizations and community members around a shared mission. Every dollar raised helps our food banks get more milk to local families.

But Miles for Milk isn’t really about running. It’s about using Tyler’s platform as a dairy farmer to raise awareness and support for the people working every day to fight hunger in our communities.

Together with American Dairy Association North East, we’re supporting our food banks as they work to bring more fresh milk to local families. Every dollar raised through Fill A Glass With Hope® helps make that possible.

We had an idea - and the food banks across New York ran with it!

For Hunger Action Day, we asked the Governor’s Office to light up landmarks across the state in orange. Then we asked our food banks to help us capture them. And wow, did they deliver! 16 landmarks across New York lit up orange to shine a light on hunger and here’s the full lineup:

Sounds easy, right? Not always! Some of our teams had to get pretty creative to get the shot - and it turned into a great way to bring our food banks together while shining a light on hunger in New York. Even where there wasn’t a landmark lighting up, or we couldn't capture the shot, our food bank friends found their own creative ways to join in. Take a look at some of our favorites!

Today is Hunger Action Day.

Throughout September, we’ve been showing what taking action against hunger can look like and our Feeding New York State team has been wearing orange wherever our work takes us.

More than 3 million New Yorkers struggle with food insecurity, including nearly 840,000 children. Hunger is a challenge that touches every part of our state, and it will take all of us to make a difference.

Today, we’re asking: What will you do? Support a food bank. Volunteer. Donate. Wear orange. Share the message. Start a conversation. Every action matters, and together we can take action against hunger.

Meet Yahya Slimani, sporting his FNYS gear all the way from Morocco!

Otherwise known as Mr. Worldwide (not to be confused with any other famous artists who may share that same title), Yahya is part of the incredible team at ATLAS DEVSHOP, helping nonprofits leverage the power of Salesforce.

Yahya has been our main project manager throughout our Salesforce work, and he has jumped right in to learn not only about us, but about our 10 member food banks, the work they do, and the people we serve. He’s become a true champion of our mission along the way.

So, Yahya - thank you for taking FNYS all the way to Morocco! This might just be the farthest our shirt has traveled so far.

It's Hunger Action Month and we have a special journey we want you to follow.

This September, you’ll be seeing a lot more about Tyler Beck and his Miles for Milk campaign. Tyler is a dairy farmer from Freeville, New York, who is taking on the New York City Marathon this fall with a goal that goes far beyond the finish line.

In partnership with American Dairy Association North East we’re supporting Tyler’s mission to raise funds through Fill A Glass With Hope for our food banks and their work to bring more milk to local families. Every dollar raised will help our food banks get more milk to the families they serve.

We hope you’ll follow along, share his story and help us support Tyler as he works toward his goal. Donate to help turn his goal of $1,000 for every 26.2 miles he runs into more milk for local families.
