When SNAP participation declines, families lose access to food, communities lose federal dollars, and local economies suffer. Congress can take action to reverse the harm and strengthen SNAP. It's time to take action: https://ow.ly/Gms350ZBSwb

Food Bank of the Southern Tier On The Road with FNYS!

One of the greatest strengths of our network is the willingness to learn from one another.

This spring, our Director of Engagement, Steffani, had the opportunity to attend Feeding Westchester's Agency Conference alongside colleagues from Food Bank of the Southern Tier. Through the relationships built during our quarterly member meetings, Food Bank of the Southern Tier learned about the conference and asked if they could attend to observe, gather ideas, and learn from Feeding Westchester's approach. In return, Feeding Westchester is invited to attend their conference later this year.

This is exactly what collaboration looks like. By connecting food banks across New York, we're helping to share knowledge, spark new ideas, and strengthen the collective impact of our network.

Earlier this last month, along with Regional Food Bank and Long Island Cares, we joined young advocates from across the nation in D.C. for the 2026 Gen Z Food and Hunger Summit. This was an incredible opportunity to advocate for food security with the next generation of leaders!

New York's food banks see the realities of hunger every day and the solutions require all of us. We encourage you to take a few minutes to read this important OpEd featured in the Albany Times Union.

Thank you to the Albany Times Union for highlighting this important conversation. Read it here:

Payment errors are not the same as fraud. Delaying a new federal penalty would let states improve system accuracy without putting food assistance in jeopardy.

Growing partnerships start with conversations.

Early in the Spring, Steffani and Jim had the opportunity to visit Cahoon Farms and meet with Myia and Todd to learn more about their operation and discuss their interest in supporting hunger-relief efforts across New York State.

During our visit, we talked about opportunities to strengthen connections across our food bank network and explore ways Cahoon Farms may be able to expand its impact. These conversations help build relationships, spark new ideas, and create opportunities for collaboration that benefit communities across the state.

We're grateful to Cahoon Farms for welcoming us to their orchard and look forward to seeing where these conversations lead.

Innovation in action!

Our own Cass Hammecker and Jay Hawkins recently attended the ReFED Summit 2026 and Jay took the stage for a panel discussion called "Rescue Reimagined: The New Face of Food Recovery." Alongside Eliza Blank (Farmlink) and Adam Lowy (Move For Hunger), Jay highlighted how our DEC-funded Food Recovery Program has fundamentally strengthened food recovery across New York State, directly increasing vital donations for our food banks.

By collaborating with creative partners like Farmlink and Move For Hunger, we are finding innovative solutions to move time-sensitive products quickly and efficiently. Together, we are reshaping what's possible in the fight against food waste!
