URGENT: Call Governor Hochul Today to Fully Fund Critical Hunger Relief Programs! We need your help today!

We are entering the final days of negotiation for the FY27 state budget, which will determine critical funding for food banks, farms and families across the state. As the Governor and leadership in the Senate and Assembly finalize the budget, now is our last chance to ensure HPNAP and Nourish New York are fully funded at $75 million each in the enacted state budget.

Take action and make your voice heard! Call Governor Hochul’s office today and ask that both HPNAP and Nourish New York be fully funded at $75M in the enacted state budget.

HPNAP and Nourish New York are two essential programs that help distribute food and support operations at our 10 member food banks and nearly 4,000 pantries and community-based organizations across the state. The Governor’s current proposal has HPNAP and Nourish New York funded at $72.8M and $55M, respectively, while the Senate and Assembly has both programs funded fully at $75M. It is critical that the enacted budget funds both of these programs at $75M each.

We urge you to contact the Governor’s office today to ensure that funding levels proposed by the Legislature remain in the final enacted budget.

The FNYS Board and leadership met in person this week at the Food Bank of Central New York. After a tour of the facility's operations, the team engaged in a productive day of collaborative planning. These discussions are essential to our ongoing mission of supporting New York’s ten food banks and the millions of New Yorkers they serve. The Feeding NYS team is on the move!

We recently visited the Regional Food Bank in Latham to see firsthand how they empower local partners to ‘shop’ for their communities. But the real highlight? Seeing their incredible on-site hydroponic farm in action.

By leveling up on tech and sustainability, we can bring the most innovative ideas back to our network across New York. Fresh, local, and sustainable food for all is the goal.

We were proud to have Kathleen, Jay, and Steff represent Feeding New York State at
the Feeding America Annual Leadership Conference in Dallas earlier this month. With this year’s theme, Uniting Communities, the conference brought together leaders from across the country to share ideas, strengthen partnerships, and explore new ways to better serve our neighbors. We’re excited to bring these learnings back to New York and continue strengthening the power of our network.

Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Tessa Yohan

In honor of Volunteer Appreciation Month, we’re excited to highlight one of our incredible volunteers - Tessa Yohan, our very first social media volunteer!

Tessa recently graduated from Hobart and William Smith in May 2025, where she developed a strong passion for food justice and food systems. She’s now bringing that passion to FNYS by helping us strengthen and elevate our social media presence in meaningful ways.

We’re so grateful for her creativity, energy, and fresh perspective as we continue to grow our digital storytelling.

When she’s not working full time or helping us share our mission online, Tessa stays busy exercising, pet-sitting for all kinds of furry friends, and hunting for vintage treasures - think fashion, textiles, furniture, and (by her own admission) probably a few too many great pairs of shoes.

We’re lucky to have her on the team - THANK YOU Tessa, for everything you do!

Feeding New York State moved over 16.5 million lbs. of fresh onions to 19 states beyond our borders. As planting season kicks off this April, we’re proud to keep these nutrient-dense staples moving from our famous muck soils into our Fresh To Go Boxes. New York isn’t just growing onions; we’re leading the nation. Accounting for 97% of Northeast production, our growers are the backbone of a $52 million industry.

We’re excited to share that our Fresh To Go Boxes of produce recently made their way to the
Regional Food Bank!

“Thanks again for working with us and generously covering the costs of this load so we can test it out at our distributions,” says Arin Kutey, Manager of Food Industry Partnerships at Regional Food Bank.

It’s always exciting to see these boxes in action and help get fresh, healthy food into the hands of the communities that need it most!
