Leadership Albany was established in 1984 for the purpose of identifying and developing leaders in the Albany, GA area, exposing them to issues and problems confronting the community, informing them about institutions in the community and providing a forum for the participants to better know each other.

The Board of Directors, corporate sponsors, alumni and current class members were present at our annual Fireside Chat last week, held at Doublegate Country Club. Our signature event features an intimate sit-down with an established leader in the community.

This year, the attendees heard about the triumphs and struggles of Leadership Albany alumni Mark Taylor’s leadership journey. This one-on-one discussion with the former Lieutenant Governor shares his journey in hopes that attendees are able to strengthen their own personal leadership journey.

Meet Kimberly Gilliam – a business development professional, community advocate, and dedicated team player at Albany Air Conditioning and Heating! 🏢✨

In her business development role, Kimberly helps keep day-to-day operations running efficiently by coordinating internal processes, supporting team members on projects, and working closely with leadership to improve communication, scheduling, organization, and customer service. She also supports customer relations, marketing efforts, internal communications, and the implementation of new systems and tools designed to improve workflow and productivity. 🤝🏾📈

Kimberly’s commitment to serving others extends well beyond her professional responsibilities. She serves as a staff liaison for the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee, volunteers with the Southwest Georgia Self-Help Center fundraiser, supports the United Way, and serves as a volunteer leader at Hope City United Church. She also gives her time to Strive 2 Thrive, Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful, and the Snickers/Combos Marathon. 💙🙌🏾

The Leadership Albany Board of Directors and Alumni Engagement Committee along with the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to invite Leadership Albany Alumni and current class members to attend our upcoming annual Fireside Chat. This will be a great opportunity to mingle with fellow alumni, the current Class of 2026 and hear from our guest speaker, former Lt. Governor of Georgia and Leadership Albany Alumni Class of 1985, Mr. Mark Taylor, as he shares his personal leadership journey.

📚 BCE 2026 Spotlight! 📚

Meet Ernest Jones, Jr. – an educational leader, student advocate, and Director of Guidance and Counseling at Dougherty High School! 🍎✨

In his role, Ernest provides leadership, coordination, and support to the school’s counseling department. He develops and oversees comprehensive counseling programs focused on academic achievement, college and career readiness, and the social-emotional development of students. As a department liaison, he also works closely with administrators, faculty, district staff, parents, and community partners to ensure students have the support and resources they need to thrive. 🎓🤝🏾

Ernest’s commitment to education and community extends well beyond his professional role. He serves on the Education Committee for One Albany, Inc., is involved with the Dads Auxiliary and Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and serves as a Steward and Finance Committee Member at Bethel AME Church. He is also an active member of the Fort Valley State University Alumni Association – Albany Alumni Chapter and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. 💙🙌🏾

Meet Danielle Whitaker – an educational leader, mentor, and Assistant Principal in the Lee County School System! 🍎✨

As an elementary school assistant principal, Danielle helps lead daily school operations while working alongside the principal and instructional coaches to create a safe, supportive, and academically challenging environment for every student. She helps guide instruction, support teachers, manage schedules, and navigate the many unexpected challenges that come with keeping a school running smoothly. Most importantly, Danielle strives to be a dependable and compassionate leader for both her staff and students. 💙

Building meaningful relationships with students is at the heart of Danielle’s leadership. From learning students’ names and celebrating their successes to helping them navigate challenges and make positive choices, she believes in creating a school community where every child feels seen, supported, and empowered to succeed. Her clear and consistent communication with students, staff, and families helps strengthen the connections that make a school community thrive. 🌟

Danielle’s commitment to developing others extends beyond the classroom. She serves as Vice President of the Lee County Female Minority Mentoring Program (LCFFMP), is a Media Specialist at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, and previously served as an advisor for Lee County High School’s FCCLA. She also recently served as Program Director for the Lee County School System Basketball Cheer Program. 📣🙌🏾

Meet Davis Gill, Jr. – a Certified Financial Planner, business owner, and dedicated community servant! 📈🤝🏾

As the owner of The Jenkins Group, Davis uses his expertise in financial planning to help others navigate their financial goals and make informed decisions for the future. His professional commitment to financial stewardship is matched by a strong dedication to serving the community around him.

Davis has continued that commitment through a number of leadership and volunteer roles. He has served as the Chief Volunteer Officer and Finance Chair for the Albany YMCA, and as a Deacon and Finance Chair at First Baptist Church of Albany. He also serves as Sergeant-at-Arms for the Albany Rotary Club and has accepted a position on the Board of The Arc of Southwest Georgia. 👏🏾💙

🌟 BCE 2026 Spotlight! 🌟

Meet Bristeria Clark – a dedicated public servant, community advocate, and Deputy County Clerk with the Dougherty County Board of Commissioners! 🏛️✨

In her role, Bristeria works closely with the County Clerk, County Administrator, and Board of Commissioners to help keep daily operations running smoothly. From implementing office policies and procedures and supporting budget processes to preparing agendas and meeting minutes, managing board appointments, processing purchase orders and receipts, and preparing important departmental reports, she plays a vital role in supporting effective county government. 📋🤝🏾

But Bristeria’s commitment to service doesn’t stop at the office. In her spare time, she advocates for families and communities through her work with Mothering Justice, serves as an organizer for 9to5 Georgia, and is a Beacon Leader with Mom Rising. She is also an alumni leader with the Southeast Advocacy Planning Committee (SEAP) and contributes her time and perspective through community, youth, and family advisory boards. 💜🙌🏾

🌟 Leadership Albany Class of 2026 Mid-Year Retreat 🌟

The Leadership Albany Class of 2026, presented by Flint Community Bank, recently traveled to Macon, Georgia, for their mid-year retreat.

The experience provided participants with an opportunity to explore innovative initiatives and successful public-private partnerships shaping the Macon community. Through firsthand experiences and conversations with local leaders, the class gained perspective on how collaboration, engagement, and servant leadership can drive meaningful community growth.

Connecting with like-minded leaders in Macon also challenged participants to consider how similar ideas and partnerships might be adapted to address opportunities here in Albany.

The retreat served as an important reminder that leadership development extends beyond our own community—and that inspiration, collaboration, and shared experiences can help shape a stronger future for all.

Meet Terry Brown – a technology professional, community servant, and Network Engineer with the City of Albany’s Telecommunications Department! 🌐✨

In his role, Terry helps keep Albany connected by installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network infrastructure that supports commercial, residential, and internal internet services. His work helps ensure reliable connectivity for the community while keeping the city’s technology infrastructure running smoothly. Beyond his technical responsibilities, Terry also volunteers at community events, providing technical support and helping encourage public engagement. 📡🤝🏾

Terry’s commitment to service extends well beyond his work in technology. He has served as a Board Member for the Exchange Club of Albany, worked as a Team Leader with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, and shared his musical talents as a musician at Wooden Grove Baptist Church and Beulaland Baptist Church. 🎶💙
