Police Conference of New York President Michael O'Meara was invited to a meeting with Rep. Mike Lawler and Acting United States Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling to discuss issues affecting the police profession.

President O’Meara spoke about the need for a HALO Bill on the Federal level, as well as measures to prevent doxing and protecting our families from harassment.

He also spoke about some National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO) issues including a Federal Police Officer bill of rights, uniform rights to collective bargaining, and a review of the FLSA to ensure police are protected.

Doesn't matter where we are the Police Conference of New York always makes time to advocate for our members.

Police Conference of New York Treasurer Erik Breitwieser was with U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand to show support for the "The Public Safety Officers’ Benefits Program" (S.3897) which was created to support the families of officers who make the ultimate sacrifice and those who are catastrophically injured in the line of duty.

Erik Breitwieser also serves as Southampton Town PBA President.

Unfortunately, far too many of those families have been forced to wait years—sometimes more than a decade—for the benefits they were promised. That is simply unacceptable.

The Officer John Barnes and Chief Michael Ansbro PSOB Program Expansion Act will help fix that. It establishes a clear timeline for claim decisions, speeds up claims for eligible 9/11 responders, and brings much-needed transparency and accountability to the program. PSOB Expansion Act

This isn’t about creating new benefits—it’s about honoring the commitments already made to our nation’s public safety officers and their families.

This legislation is a priority not only for the Police Conference of New York but for National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO) as well.
