🚨 SIGNIFICANT INCIDENTS | OCTOBER 9, 2026 🚨

Yesterday, Group 1 handled 33 incidents in a single 24-hour period across Saratoga Springs. Among those calls were two significant incidents that demonstrate the demands placed on our department:

🔥 SINGLE-ALARM STRUCTURE FIRE — BROADWAY

Late in the morning, crews responded to a structure fire on Broadway, requiring a coordinated fireground response.

🚨 VEHICLE INTO A BUILDING — VIOLENT ASSAULT

Crews also responded to a vehicle that struck a building as the result of a violent assault involving a knife. Incidents like this require our personnel to manage the hazards associated with both the vehicle and the structural damage to the building, while simultaneously utilizing Advanced Life Support (ALS) to assess, treat, and provide critical patient care.

This level of call volume is not unusual for our department. Our members routinely manage high call volumes, complex emergencies, and overlapping incidents while continuing to protect the residents, businesses, and visitors of our city.

Maintaining our current staffing levels is paramount to the safety of Saratoga Springs. Adequate staffing allows us to respond to simultaneous emergencies, maintain coverage throughout the city, and provide the level of service our community expects and deserves.

When multiple emergencies happen at once, we cannot afford to be understaffed. Our ability to manage these incidents demonstrates the importance of maintaining the personnel necessary to do the job safely and effectively.

Staffing is not just a budget item. It is a public safety issue. It is our ability to respond when our community needs us most.

NYSPFFA leaders and members joined hundreds of others at the 2026 Fallen Firefighters Memorial today in Albany.

The 53 names added to the memorial wall are more than names on stone. They represent lives, families, firehouses and stories that will never be forgotten.

To the families who lost a loved one, we carry their memory and sacrifice with us every time we answer the call. It is an honor to remember them.

Rest easy, brothers and sisters.
