Great new resource available for teens and their families in Livingston County! Check with your local DMV to see if the program is offered in your county.

ICYMI: We've officially launched the 'Parents as Driving Partners' program at the Geneseo DMV alongside several community partners.

We're proud to be the FIRST County in Western NY to adopt this youth driving safety initiative, designed to help parents and teen drivers work together to create safer roads.

Now, all teens applying for a learner permit at Livingston County DMV locations will receive a free program booklet packed with safe driving tips, resources, and a parent-teen driving agreement to help families set clear expectations before hitting the road.

Special thanks to the Livingston County Youth Bureau, County Clerk’s Office/DMV, Livingston County Sheriff's Office, and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Livingston County for partnering to bring this resource to our teens and their families.

School Resource Officers are on the front lines every day—building relationships, supporting students, and helping keep our schools safe 👮‍♂️🏫

Through C-PASS, The Committee on Policing and Safeguarding Schools, a program of the New York State Sheriffs’ Association, law enforcement and educators come together to share best practices, strengthen communication, and prepare for real-world challenges.

It’s a powerful program that continues to make a difference across New York State—supporting those who are making a difference every single day 💪

We’re seeing an increase in what are known as “digital arrest” scams. ⚠️📞

Scammers contact victims by phone or video, claiming to be law enforcement or government officials. They may say you are under investigation or facing arrest and must act immediately to avoid serious consequences.

In some cases, they even keep victims on the phone for extended periods to create pressure and prevent them from verifying the claim. 🚨

They then demand payment — often through wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or gift cards — to “resolve” the situation.

Be alert for:
• Calls claiming you are about to be arrested unless you pay immediately ⚠️
• Requests to stay on the phone and not speak to anyone else 📵
• Demands for payment using unusual methods like gift cards or crypto 💳
• Callers claiming to be from law enforcement but refusing verification 🚩

Law enforcement agencies will never demand payment over the phone or threaten immediate arrest in this way.

If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately and contact your local Sheriff’s Office. ❌

Report scams to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.

School Resource Officers are on the front lines every day—building relationships, mentoring students, and helping keep our schools safe. They’re not just law enforcement in a school setting—they’re trusted adults, role models, and a vital part of the school community.

Through initiatives like the Committee on Policing and Safeguarding Schools (C-PASS), Sheriffs across New York State are working together to support SROs, strengthen school safety, and share best practices that make a real difference.

Follow the Committee on Policing and Safeguarding Schools on Facebook to stay connected and see the important work happening across New York.

Today we pause to remember the correction officers and staff who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Their work was demanding, often done out of sight, but always essential. They showed up each day in service to public safety, their communities, and their fellow officers.

We recognize their sacrifice and the families they left behind.

Their commitment will not be forgotten.
