𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 ✨

This week, we're proud to highlight 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐳, a dedicated community leader and longtime supporter of Southern New Mexico.

Born and raised in Alamogordo, Angelica has deep roots in our community. Her father served in the Air Force and chose Alamogordo as the place to call home. For more than 17 years, she has been a valued member of Southwest Heritage Bank, building relationships and serving others with excellence. When she's not working, Angelica enjoys spending time with her husband and family, as well as taking walks with her beloved pup.

One of the 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬 that has shaped her journey is simple but powerful: "Always be on assignment. Strive for excellence. Never stop learning."

Angelica has faithfully served as a Thrive Board Member since 2011 and remains actively involved in her church community at Mountain View Church. Through initiatives such as their annual Thanksgiving meal, she helps provide support, connection, and care to community members throughout the year.

𝐇𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐬 𝟑:𝟓, reflects the faith that guides her life: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."

𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 🌟

Each Monday, we’ll be spotlighting individuals in our community who are making a meaningful difference across Southern New Mexico through leadership, service, and heart.

This week’s 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 spotlight is 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐊𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐨.

Born in Honolulu and raised in a family dedicated to service, Chief Kunihiro moved to Alamogordo in 1992 and has remained committed to serving the community ever since. After earning his Criminal Justice degree from New Mexico State University, he joined the Alamogordo Police Department in 2006 and worked his way through multiple leadership roles before becoming Chief of Police in 2023.

𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐊𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐨’𝐬 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝:
“Work hard but value your time off as much as your time on the pitch job. Maintaining physical and mental well-being matters.”

We are incredibly excited to share that this year’s 𝟓𝐊 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐅𝐮𝐧 𝐑𝐮𝐧 saw a 𝟗𝟎% 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 in participation compared to last year! 🎉

Seeing so many individuals and families come together to support this event made it a huge success, and we are so 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭. The energy, excitement, and color-filled fun were unforgettable!

We’re looking forward to watching this event continue to grow each year and can’t wait to make next year even bigger and better. 𝙏𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 who participated, volunteered, and supported ColorFest!

This week’s 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 feature is 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐑. 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐧.

A native of San Antonio, Mr. Calhoun is a proud 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐢𝐫 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐯𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧 with 26 years of active-duty service. Now serving as the Deputy Director for the 49th Maintenance Group at Holloman Air Force Base, he oversees maintenance operations supporting aircraft, personnel, and mission readiness critical to national defense.

Throughout his career, Mr. Calhoun has served in numerous leadership roles and supported missions including Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Noble Eagle. His decades of service reflect an unwavering commitment to excellence, mentorship, and teamwork.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Calhoun is deeply involved in the local community and proudly serves as a Board Member for THRIVE. He has also played a major role in the success of THRIVE’s Day of Caring event, helping bring volunteers, organizations, and community members together to make a meaningful impact across Southern New Mexico.

In observance of Memorial Day, the THRIVE office will be closed tomorrow, Friday 5/22 and Monday 5/25. We will resume normal business hours on Tuesday. We wish everyone a safe and meaningful holiday weekend as we remember and honor our fallen heroes. 🇺🇸

Born and raised in Alamogordo and now living and working in Ruidoso, Alejandro serves both Lincoln and Otero counties as a community banker and lender. His passion for helping others and giving back to the community shines through everything he does.

𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐣𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨’𝐬 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞:

As the 2026 Board President for THRIVE, Alejandro has spent the last four years helping strengthen local nonprofits and expand their impact throughout our communities. He also serves through White Sands Rotary, continuing his commitment to building connections and creating positive change.
