Standing up for children isn't always comfortable. Sometimes, speaking up means reporting a family you know. Sometimes protecting a child means saying hard things to the adults in their life.

At Kid's Inc., we stand with children first. For many years, our team has walked beside kids in Otero and Lincoln Counties through forensic interviews, family advocacy, crisis counseling, and days in court.

Not everyone will agree with every step we take to keep a child safe. A child's safety is worth the discomfort.

Kids deserve adults who refuse to stay quiet. Join us at kidsinccac.com.

Happy work anniversary to Catina Carpenter, our Family Advocate and Case Tracker.

When a family comes to Kid's Inc., Catina is often one of the first people they meet. She walks parents and caregivers through each step, answers hard questions with patience, and connects families with counseling and resources close to home.

Behind the scenes, she keeps every case moving. She follows up with our partners, tracks each step, and makes sure every family gets the support they need long after their first visit.

Families leave with a plan and a person in their corner.

Thank you, Catina, for another year of showing up for children and families in Otero and Lincoln Counties. We are grateful to work beside you.

National Boss's Day, celebrated every October 16, is a chance to thank the leaders who guide and support their teams.

Today we're celebrating Cambri Syling, our Executive Director and Forensic Interviewer.

Cambri leads Kid's Inc. with heart. She guides our team through hard days, champions every child who walks through our doors, and still sits down with kids herself as a forensic interviewer. She knows every family's story matters, and she makes sure our whole team feels supported while doing difficult work.

Thank you, Cambri, for your leadership, your compassion, and your steady presence for children and families in Otero and Lincoln Counties. We're lucky to work for you.

Happy Boss's Day from your Kid's Inc. team.

When a child walks into Kid's Inc. for the first time, they're often scared, unsure, and carrying more than any kid should. Our job is to help them feel safe from the very first moment.

From there, we stay beside them. A forensic interview in a child-friendly room. A family advocate who answers a parent's questions and connects them with resources. Crisis counseling to help kids work through what happened. Comfort from Sunny, our courthouse facility dog, on the hardest days. And support all the way to the courtroom and beyond.

Since 1998, children and families in Otero and Lincoln Counties have counted on this care. Your donation helps us keep showing up for every child who needs us.

Kid's Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and gifts of every size help.

Bullying often happens in front of other kids. When no one speaks up, the child doing the bullying learns the behavior works.

An upstander changes the moment. Upstanders sit with the child who got left out. They say, "Stop. Leave them alone." They walk away with the child being targeted, or they tell a trusted adult.

Talk with your kids about being upstanders. Practice what to say together, and remind them telling an adult is never tattling.

National Bullying Prevention Month is a reminder every child deserves to feel safe at school, online, and everywhere in between.

We often hear adults say, "Kids don't have real problems," or "They're too young to feel stressed."

Kids feel more than we give them credit for.

World Mental Health Day, observed every October 10, reminds us mental health matters at every age, including childhood.

In 2023, 4 in 10 U.S. high school students reported persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, according to the CDC. Younger children struggle too, even when they don't have the words to say so.

A child's mental health shapes how they learn, make friends, and handle hard days. What kids feel today shapes the adults they become.

Take their feelings seriously. Ask about their day and listen to the answer. Notice changes in sleep, appetite, or mood. Let them know every feeling is okay to talk about.

If you're living with violence at home, you might believe your children are safe as long as no one hurts them. Many parents hold onto this hope. The truth is harder, and knowing the truth helps you protect them.

Children don't need to be hit to be harmed. A child becomes a victim of domestic violence when they see the adults in their home fight, hear threats or crying from another room, or live with the fear and tension abuse leaves behind.

Kids carry these moments with them. Some become anxious, clingy, or angry. Some struggle to sleep or focus in school. Others go quiet and blame themselves, believing they caused the fighting or should have stopped it.

None of this means you've failed your children. Reaching out for help is one of the most protective steps a parent takes.

Tell your child the violence is not their fault. Keep routines as steady as possible. Let them talk about what they saw and felt, and listen without judgment. Most of all, get support for both of you.

If you need help, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or text START to 88788. In an emergency, call 911.

Thank you, Chris and Team, for the kind words and the support, always! 🥹❤️

We received a beautiful letter thanking us for our support of Kids Inc., and we are thankful for that! We are blessed to support these types of organizations when we can!

But the reality is, the people who continue to advocate for children in their lowest moments should not have to thank us. The thanks go to them.

Thank you, Cambri and team, for the work you continue to do!

When a family faces domestic violence, hard choices follow. Too often, those choices protect the adult causing harm. A warning sign gets brushed off to keep the peace. A child's fear gets explained away. A family stays quiet to avoid upsetting someone.

Each of those moments tells a child their safety comes second.

Children who live with violence at home need adults who put them first. Believe them when they speak up. Take their fear seriously. Make their safety the deciding factor every time.

World Teachers' Day, celebrated every October 5, honors the teachers who shape young lives around the world.

Teachers see kids almost every day. They know which student lights up during art, who needs an extra minute to answer, and when a cheerful child suddenly goes quiet.

Attention like this matters. For some children, a teacher is the first adult to notice something is wrong and the first person they trust enough to tell.

To the teachers in Otero and Lincoln Counties, thank you for the extra patience, the hallway check-ins, and the times you spoke up for a child. You make our community safer for kids.

Happy World Teachers' Day from all of us at Kid's Inc.
