This project offers free screening for HbA1c at the flea market in Alamo, Texas, on Sundays, 9 a.m. The screening is tied to referrals for medical appointments for those with results in the diabetic range. During the summer of 2016, the booth is also open Saturdays, 9 a.m. Activities include: for those with diabetic test results, screening of urine to test for kidney damage. They are also urged to

see their doctors. If they lack a doctor, they are referred to NuestraClinica del Valle and provided a free initial visit and free labs with an appointment in the following week. All who visit the booth are provided with information on healthy eating and physical activity, often through informal discussion. Those with results in the prediabetic range are offered information about diabetes prevention through improved patterns of eating and physical activity.
