91 DAYS. For a little dog. We honestly don’t understand it. 💔
Marley came into our shelter on May 19th with 11 other dogs from the same home and somehow this sweet little girl has now spent three months waiting for someone to choose her. She’s the only one of 12 that hasn’t left.
Small dogs usually leave our shelter quickly. Marley just… hasn’t.
So this weekend, I brought her home with me.
And after getting to know home Marley instead of just shelter Marley, I am even more confused about why this girl is still homeless.
Marley is about 2 years old and a Jack Russell Terrier mix. She’s a small, quiet little girl whose favorite place in the world is wherever her person happens to be.
She’s wonderful with kids, even the little ones. ❤️ She gets along great with cats and other dogs and has fit right into a house full of them. She does have one very important rule: if she’s curled up in a chair with her person, she’d prefer the other dogs not interrupt her snuggle session. 😂 Apparently lap ownership is serious business.
Outside, Marley has absolutely blown me away. She’s an amazing off-leash companion who naturally stays close, checks in with you, and has excellent recall. I have personally also had no issues with her chasing chickens or any small animals and have watched her walk calmly with them.
In the vehicle? Top-notch console riding buddy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
She’s crate trained, isn’t a big barker, and is actually surprisingly quiet and easygoing for a little terrier type dog. At bedtime, Marley would very much like to inform her future family that she requires a comfy bed, preferably with blankets she can burrow underneath. She’s an expert level snuggler.
The one thing we’re still working on is house training. She isn’t there yet, but we’re actively working on it in foster, and she’s getting the opportunity to learn what life inside a home is supposed to look like.

She needs a couch. A blanket. Someone to ride shotgun with. A person to follow around the yard. A family whose chair she can shamelessly take over.
After 91 days, I really don’t want to take this little girl back to the shelter.
