Interesting to see this footage both because it was apparently shot in the US, and also because the game looks much more like shinty than modern hurling. We know that historic hurls look like camans, and it’s fascinating to see 90 year old film that also looks similar to shinty.

ICYMI: Ten shinty clubs awarded £5,000 for youth development by Mowi

One of those clubs is Kilmory who have been taking strides both on and off the field over the past year.

Angus Gilmour, President of Kilmory, said, “The hard work over the years to establish our primary group section is paying dividends (11 of our current Kilmory squad and a number of the current Dunadd team took up shinty when we kicked this off in 2011), we still have work to do in the age group space with the u14/17’s but this will continue to build with the numbers coming through. We are exploring getting a 2nd team for Kilmory in a year or 2, so if anyone is interested and wants to get involved, please get in contact with us.”

From Northern California Camanachd...

Northern California Camanachd is postponing all our activities for the time being as per COVID-19 suppression guidelines. We will be tracking the actions of local governments and the CDC as to when we will be resuming normal activities. In the meantime, we are working to schedule a Google Hangout in order to discuss club plans for the year.
