Please see the following message from the City regarding a lost canoe. Also, please remember to tie your canoes, etc to your dock so they don't blow off during winter storms.

"Yesterday, December 30, 2025, City staff was made aware of an abandoned canoe that had become wedged underneath a private dock along Palmera Ct. City staff has since removed the canoe from Lagoon 2, and it is currently being stored at the City’s maintenance yard. We are requesting your assistance in communicating with your members to make them aware of this finding in case anyone is missing a canoe. As with previous situations, if the canoe is not claimed within a reasonable amount of time, it will be disposed of accordingly. If a member believes the canoe belongs to them, please direct them to contact Manny Rios at 510-747-7922."

Hello Alameda West Lagoon Residents,

We are pleased to share the results of our recent water quality testing conducted in the lagoons. The lab analyzed one sample collected from each lagoon (five total) and detected no harmful toxins, including cyanobacteria.

The lagoon remains safe for activities such as swimming and boating. We will continue our regular water quality testing to maintain a safe environment and promptly address any potential issues. We hope that you understand that when we hear reports of concerning issues, such as this case, we move quickly to warn residents and test to verify the safety of the lagoon system.

We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to preserving the health and safety of our community.

Sincerely,

Board of Directors

Dear Alameda West Lagoon Homeowners,

Out of an abundance of caution, we're writing to let you know that we have received a confirmed report of a dog getting sick and dying after playing on the beach while the lagoon was lowered. We also have an unconfirmed report of a second dog death. Our vendor, Clean Lakes recommends we test the lagoons for Cyanotoxins that can cause these symptoms to manifest.

The Board has authorized testing of the lagoons in several locations to determine if there are Cyanotoxins in the water. We encourage you to practice extreme caution and not allow pets or people to play or bathe in the water until testing is complete. We will provide updates as we know more. We are providing this warning in the interest of keeping everyone and their pets safe.
We appreciate your patience and understanding. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us however this is the full extent of our knowledge at this time.

In community spirit,
Sincerely,

Dear Lagoon Community Neighbors,

Our annual lagoon lowering is coming up soon. This year, it's scheduled for April 14 to May 12, 2025. This presents a perfect opportunity to work together to maintain our beautiful waterfront community.

During this period, all waterfront homeowners must:

1. Clean up the beaches and sea walls

Remove organic material (seaweed, algae, etc., not shells)

Rake, scrape, and bag the debris

Place bags at the curb for City pickup

2. Address any dock maintenance needs

- Inspect your dock for damage

- Plan for necessary repairs

- Remove structures that are beyond repair

Unlike previous years' guidance, please leave oyster shells and other marine shellfish habitats. We want to encourage the growth of organisms that naturally improve water quality without using algaecide.

Your beach cleanup efforts make a real difference! Removing organic material significantly reduces algae blooms during summer, keeping our lagoon clean and enjoyable for everyone. No one wants more algaecide that costs the HOA $18,000 per application and introduces unnecessary chemicals into our environment.

As a board, we're also focusing on dock maintenance this year. Well-maintained docks look better and prevent debris from entering our waterways. If you notice any docks needing attention, please help us track them using our online inventory form: AWLHOA Dock Inventory or https://dub.sh/AWLHOA We'll reach out to homeowners individually to discuss maintenance plans.

Thank you for helping preserve the beauty and safety of our shared lagoon. Together, we can ensure everyone enjoys our waterfront community to the fullest!

Best regards,

HOA Board
