I know her! East Bay cannabis advocate Luna Stower on CNN.

Also: the va**ng crisis has been horrible for v**e sales – even the ones who have been on the up & up with just using cannabis oil in their v**es, without additives.

THC v**e products used to be the fastest growing category in the legal cannabis market, but after the recent CDC reports of v**e-related lung injuries and deaths, sales for legal THC v**e products have taken a nosedive.

So, when will we see a candidate in Alameda running for council with a cannabis-forward social justice agenda?

Bringing a new perspective and progression to Grand Haven, without jeopardizing the safety or image of our beautiful community.

Amanda Reiman breaks it down -

"...the lure of allowing the cannabis industry to go the way of every other industry (white, male, well financed, and where the majority of the pie is held by a small group of people) is strong. Trying to create an industry that diverges from the past feels like fighting an undertow. But we have to keep fighting it."

Amanda Reiman wants cannabis to be more than a big new market for the same old powers-that-be.

We did it!

What happened Tuesday at the last city council meeting: the old council and mayor did the final vote on the cannabis ordinance and it passed.

If there isn't any -new shenanigans- the current ordinance is now said and done. Needs a first and second reading in 2019 but this all means businesses can start moving ahead.

Victory!

Over 2 years in the making.
Sharon Golden and Jim Oddie deserve all the credit for making it happen in the first place. And Mayor Spencer and Vice Mayor Vella for carrying it through despite the obstacles, for the past two+ years.

And we all persevered, a lot of you showed up and spoke up at council, and now it is finally here.

2019 here we come! *
New council, new mayor.

*unless something unexpected happens

This Tuesday is likely the last City Council meeting in Alameda about cannabis. 7 pm at City Hall. It's been over 2 years in the making, AICC has been sticking to it, and the day is finally here.

Final vote, Mayor Trish's legacy, and finally starting the application process for businesses. The day is finally come.

Woohoo!

(Unless something crazy happens. Failure is always an option.)

The long-fought battle to bring cannabis businesses back to the sleepy island city of Alameda, neighboring Oakland, California may finally be ending.

Update on what's happening in Alameda.

The state regulators and business people moving into cannabis are making a good-faith effort to provide safe and effective cannabis to adults while restricting access to our youth.

Win some, lose some. This is really a wonderful thing – this industry was built on a lot of people of color (many who ended up incarcerated) and now the business is more and more white. Equity programs help change that and level the playing field.

They also discussed testing labs and expediting their business permits, so they can be up and running by July 1, when the new State regulations grace period ends, and everything has to be tested according to the new laws.

Both big labs, Steep Hill and CB Labs have locations in Alameda. One says they'll hire up to 400 people, and that a quarter of their workforce is already from Alameda. One will be at a vacant building at Wind River campus, and the other has a building at Bay Farm.

The city, once they heard there's a third testing lab interested in getting a license (and there's just two permits in the current city ordinance), the city started working on how to either remove the cap for testing labs, and or how to make sure the third one also could get their license.

And a little bird told me after this batch of RFP's and licenses are done, we might be able to start working on moving towards recreational use, not just medical, in Alameda. Yay!
