HISTORY:
Abena Kapumpe Choni is a 501c (3) Alameda, the California-based Tax-exempt charitable Nonprofit organization. Specifically, we support community-based programs whose aims are to improve the underprivileged living standard of the disadvantaged in the Sub-Sahara region of Africa by providing skills and opportunities at both ind

ividual and national levels. KAPUMPE means the ‘EAGLE BIRD’. The aim is to “Fly like an eagle sky’s the limit” to fight and change the world, one child at a time. Kapumpe is the name of late Kapumpe Nsama, a native of Mporokoso, Northern part of Zambia, and mother to the organization founder Chikwanda Chabala. It is for this reason that the name Kapumpe was adopted. The idea of forming our organization came up in June 2007 by the founder Chikwanda Chanda Chabala and co-founder Chipemba Suma Salimu (mother and son). They both have prior experience volunteering with various international organizations in the USA. During this time, mother and son realized that they had been giving a blind eye to their nation, Zambia, Africa, and needed to do something about it. To make it possible, they came up with an idea of a nonprofit organization. The goal is to work in conjunction with other organizations in Africa that are helping local communities under the similar mission, objectives, vision, and programs:

MISSION:
Collaborate with government, nongovernmental, stakeholders, and local communities to support community programs that aim at improving the living standards of the underprivileged communities in Sub Sahara Africa. VISION:
End poverty by uplifting standards of living through education, income-generating activities, social welfare and, healthcare services. VALUES:
“ NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND” Ensure Gender equality in education, accountability and provide high-quality honest creative community services with extensive community outreach. OBJECTIVES:
Ensue equal accessibility to social and economic empowerment community-based projects/programs including food security, education, and healthcare. CAUSES SUPPORT::
PROGRAMS
1. Economic Empowerment: Support income generation activities
2. Education: Make education accessible by Providing school fees,
supplies and, uniforms to the orphans and vulnerable.
3. Health care: Maternal and infant mortality. HIV/AIDS, Cancer, Malaria
prevention and awareness.
4. Social Welfare: Provide support to vulnerable teens, people with
disability, household, and Grandmothers caring for orphans or the sick. GOALS:
"No Child Left Behind" Is our MOTTO. There is a huge gap throughout the vulnerable communities we assist in Africa. The children, women/widows, and homeless teens are the main target groups in need of assistance educationally and health-wise. Our goal is to:
1. Make education a priority and accessible at an early age. By doing so,
there will be a reduction in early childhood marriages and
homelessness.
2. Increase literacy and encourage income generation activities to reduce
poverty among the homeless and widows.
3. Complement the local government's efforts in improving the medical
infrastructure by supporting the community health care services. PLAN:
1. Work with local organizations and communities to ensure that children
are guided through the critical years of their education and social
development by providing educational resources and social welfare
support consistently to enable the children access to full academic
school year
2. Collaborate with businesses, stakeholders such as volunteer medical
doctors, teachers, nurses, and pharmaceutical companies to provide
guidance and healthcare services including under-five clinics,
gynecology, ant natal services, and screening/treatment for HIV and
malaria. How we achieve our goals:
Continous private and public fundraising activities, collaboration with stakeholders, donors, communities locally and internationally. Apply the proceeds of such efforts to support the program goals and plans.

The UTH mother’s Shelter with some members of staff. Almost 40 mothers received a donation of gift bags containing hygiene items, including deodorants, shampoos, and reusable sanitary towels.

The UTH mothers' shelter is a temporary home for mothers caring for their babies, specifically newly born babies. Most of these mothers come from out of town. It was such a pleasure serving these strong women. The joy on their faces was from heaven.

Visiting the Lusaka Central women correctional facilty.

My sister’s keeper had a wonderful time visiting incarcerated women, offering mental health and spiritual support to more than 250 incarcerated women at the Lusaka Central facility. We brought some special gifts such as women's hygiene items, provided lunch, and listened to their stories without judging.
The purpose was to offer a sense of hope and a reminder of a life beyond the prison walls, because we believe that visits can be a source of support and encouragement during the complex process of reintegrating into society after release.

Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take videos or photos from inside.

Most of the kids missed out on shoes because some parents did not provide the correct shoe sizes.

Well mannered children. Its such a great pleasure to be part of this community.

Clothes time. This was the hardest part.

Kapumpe made sure that all 250 children received the backpacks. Giving out backpacks was not easy, but with our volunteers' help, we ensured that no child was left behind.

There was more and more dancing. I wish I could dance, but the back PPPPN...would not allow it.

The arrival of our Sister’s Keepers from the USA at the final destination. They wore Zambian traditional wrappers and demonstrated their dancing skills.

Though it was their first time in Africa, my African American Sisters did not have challenges adjusting.

The three united 501(c)3 organizations, Kapumpe Choni, KeeshaConnect, and Team Mcgee International Ministry, embarked on an international mission to Zambia as 'My Sisters Keepers' for a greater cause. My Sister's Keepers' mission to Zambia includes the 'No Child Left Behind' Kapumpe school project at Mukuba village and mental health and spiritual support for the incarcerated women in Lusaka. On behalf of My Sister's Keepers, we at Kapumpe Choni extend our sincere appreciation to all donors for making the mission possible. Your financial, school supplies, and clothing donations greatly impacted our community.
