This is a post I have delayed making. It is emotionally hard to write. We are having to retire from going to sea. The effort to maintain and operate Sea Hope has become too much for us. We have been going almost non-stop for nearly 7 years on Sea Hope, have done around 22 missions, and touched untold number of lives, and the effort has taken an enormous physical and mental toll on us. Over the last several months the Lord has made it very plain that the time has come for us to curtail this part of our ministry.
I have informed our supporting pastors of our decision.
We are retiring from going to sea, but we hope to remain in ministry. I have had some discussions with our board of directors, Pastor Randy Barton (our mission board director), and Jan Milton of Operation Renewed Hope about possibilities for future service. Before we can transition we need to be relieved of Sea Hope. I have looked for someone to take our place or another ministry to take it over, but so far none has been found. The other option is to sell her. One potential buyer has expressed some interest.
Once we have settled the issue of the boat, we are looking to move back to North Carolina. We have been blessed so far with 5 great grandchildren, and are expecting 3 more in June. Hopefully, we will have some time to get know this 3rd generation from us.
Please pray the Lord will continue to guide us and make the way plain.
Thank you to all who have prayed for us over the years…as we say, we go by the power of prayer and not diesel fuel. A special thanks to all who worked on Sea Hope, served as crew members, or financially supported this work.
I am asking those who have financially supported us to prayerfully consider continuing the support…it costs a lot to maintain Sea Hope and that must be done until she has a new home. Once we see how we can transition to a shore based ministry, I will let you know.
Thank you….
