MY SEA HOPE

MY SEA HOPE Sea Hope is a ship based ministry doing humanitarian relief and medical missions in the Caribbean. We have carried food and supplies to St.

Vincent following the April 2021 volcano eruption and to Haiti following the August 2021 earthquake. We do humanitarian relief missions in the Caribbean Islands. To date we have carried food, medical supplies, clothing, general supplies, and building material to St Vincent following the volcano eruption on April 9, 2021 and to Haiti following the earthquake on August 14, 2021.

The items we shipped from Puerto Rico arrived this morning, so we are officially moved I guess. The car we shipped arrived last week and has been sold to a granddaughter….we bought a second RAV4 this week.

Our daughter came over and helped us empty the ReloCubes, now Mary has to unpack and put away the items.

Over our marriage we have moved so many times…I think we are up around 31 or 32 times. I pray this is the last one….

It has been said that the 2 happiest days for a boat owner are the day the boat is purchased and the day it is sold……will it was bittersweet yesterday as we turned over Sea Hope to the new owner. Mary and I wanted the Sea Hope ministry to go beyond our time, but it was not to be. Tanner has taken over Sea Hope…she may get a new name. He will continue to do disaster relief but outside of Haiti…he also has some other work he will use her for.

Mary and I moved out of our Puerto Rican house today. Our dear friends the Brunner’s came to help us pack our two ReloCubes….we will be in hotels for the next several days as we finish up paperwork and things…we are scheduled to fly back Thursday.

Sea Hope will not be passed on to a ministry. Timing just is not right, and unfortunately the port diesel generator engine failed about 3 weeks ago. The engine has to be replaced and that is an extremely difficult process if it is even doable…..not to mention the cost. A friend of mine is gonna take her over and use her for hurricane relief work, and some contracting work.

We will be sending our a letter to our supporting churches and individual supporters asking for all support to cease. Our all our accounts are settled, the Sea Hope board will disperse any remaining funds to ministries of like faith.

It has been a true blessing to serve Him. We have seen miracle after miracle…humanly impossible occurrences….and Providential provision.

We returned to Ponce this morning at 7 am. This was the our return from the haul out period at BVI, and is most likely the last underway Mary and I will do as the head of MY SEA HOPE. We are discussing turning Sea Hope over to a ministry that will continue to use her to spread the Gospel of Jesus while helping folks that are hurting and in need. We have scheduled a face to face meeting in a couple of weeks and hope to iron out some details…

Please pray the Lord will give us a clear, plain path forward.

In Virgin Gorda BVI for annual haul out. Hull overall in great shape. Couple repairs and some fresh anti-fouling and Sea Hope will be good to go.

Talking with a couple of ministries that are interested in using the boat. Just pray the Lord will give us a plain path forward….

This is a post I have delayed making. It is emotionally hard to write. We are having to retire from going to sea. The effort to maintain and operate Sea Hope has become too much for us. We have been going almost non-stop for nearly 7 years on Sea Hope, have done around 22 missions, and touched untold number of lives, and the effort has taken an enormous physical and mental toll on us. Over the last several months the Lord has made it very plain that the time has come for us to curtail this part of our ministry.

I have informed our supporting pastors of our decision.

We are retiring from going to sea, but we hope to remain in ministry. I have had some discussions with our board of directors, Pastor Randy Barton (our mission board director), and Jan Milton of Operation Renewed Hope about possibilities for future service. Before we can transition we need to be relieved of Sea Hope. I have looked for someone to take our place or another ministry to take it over, but so far none has been found. The other option is to sell her. One potential buyer has expressed some interest.

Once we have settled the issue of the boat, we are looking to move back to North Carolina. We have been blessed so far with 5 great grandchildren, and are expecting 3 more in June. Hopefully, we will have some time to get know this 3rd generation from us.

Please pray the Lord will continue to guide us and make the way plain.

Thank you to all who have prayed for us over the years…as we say, we go by the power of prayer and not diesel fuel. A special thanks to all who worked on Sea Hope, served as crew members, or financially supported this work.

I am asking those who have financially supported us to prayerfully consider continuing the support…it costs a lot to maintain Sea Hope and that must be done until she has a new home. Once we see how we can transition to a shore based ministry, I will let you know.

Thank you….

On our latest trip, we carried beans and rice to several ministries. One was to missionaries Killick and Nehemie Aristide. They used it to host an evangelistic outreach during the Mardi Gras festivities in Haiti…..shining the light of the Gospel in a time of darkness. Several professions of faith were made….
