In 1984, Peter and Mary Gregory created the Retirement Home For Horses, Inc., a nonprofit sanctuary for old, abused, and abandoned horses in Alachua, in North Central Florida. The Retirement Home For Horses at Mill Creek Farm is over 300 acres of tree-lined, rolling green pastures that is protected by a perpetual conservation easement that prevents the land from being developed, ensuring that the

Retirement Home For Horses at Mill Creek Farm will always be a sanctuary for horses in need. Approximately 40 acres are native woods and wetlands and are home to many animals such as deer, fox, rabbits, squirrels and many species of birds. There are currently 140 horses that are now retired at the farm. And while some of the horses may live here for many years, and others sadly may die too soon, each and every horse will be able to live out their lives in peace and tranquility with care and attention while at the Retirement Home For Horses at Mill Creek Farm. Newly rescued horses arrive on a regular basis and it is always hoped that they will be able to enjoy a long retirement at Mill Creek Farm. Peter died in 2014 and now their son Paul along with Mary manage the farm and live and labor there as well. Regular volunteers assist them with the feeding and grooming of the horses, as well as the chores that go with a working farm. The yearly cost to run the farm is approximately $400,000. The Retirement Home For Horses relies solely on donations and the kind support of people like you. Please help us provide a safe sanctuary for these horses. Your donations will allow many horses to be saved from the suffering of abuse and neglect. We are open to the public every Saturday from 11AM to 3PM. Admission is 2 carrots! RHH welcomed back Equine Dental Tech Gabriel Rivera, EDT to the sanctuary to perform dental checks and procedures on our recent arrivals as well as re- checks on other retirees.
Equine dental care is vital for a horse's health and regular check-ups are essential to maintain efficient digestion and the intake of nutrients.
Hooks, ramps and broken teeth are common painful malocclusions caused by uneven tooth wear and requires floating (filing) to restore the proper chewing motion.
We are grateful to have Gabriel bring his professional expertise in equine dentistry out to the sanctuary which can greatly improve the quality of life for our aging seniors during their retirement.

RHH welcomes POCKET CHANGE! Our newest retiree arrived today after retiring from the Orange County Sheriff's Office Mounted Patrol!
A 25 year old Thoroughbred gelding and former race horse, Pocket Change was originally located by the OCSO Agricultural Crimes Unit in 2018 as an "abandoned, malnourished horse". After rehabilitation and back in good health he was purchased by OCSO at the county auction for $1. (Deputy Lindsey Gonzalez had 4 quarters in her pocket and made the purchase). .....hence the name "Pocket Change". ....or PC as he is now called.
After working as a civil servant for 8 years, due to his age, it had become apparent PC was having a difficult time maintaining his weight and had been struggling to work a patrol shift. Time to retire!!
We hope he has a long and happy retirement here at Mill Creek Farm and look forward to getting to know this wonderful and remarkable horse who has had a long journey for the last 25 years before this well deserved retirement. We are immensely grateful to the OCSO team for saving and caring for this special horse and for helping him find a safe landing here at RHH.❤🐴

The Alachua Business League hosted the Spring Good Life Festival on Main Street in downtown Alachua last Sunday and RHH was there introducing the retirees' sanctuary to the fair's visitors with games, prizes and informational brochures! Once again young RHH volunteer Harlee Brewer was in charge of organizing the games, joining Paul and her mother RHH team member Miranda-Gail in the festivities.
Thanks Harlee for another great job hosting at the fair!!! 🐴❤

RHH welcome David Moore out to the sanctuary to volunteer for the day!
David' works as a mortgage broker for VyStar Credit Union Corporate Office in Jacksonville whose company policy asks its employees to volunteer 1 day a year and in return they will donate $100 to the non profit he chooses to work for!
David spent the day pressure washing the feed buckets!
Thank you David and VyStar Credit Union for your support of the sanctuary here at Mill Creek Farm and your dedication to making a difference in your community.❤🐴

Dr. Caryn Plummer, DVM and Dr. Michael Jimmerson, DVM..... the ophthalmology team from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine came out yesterday to perform an enucleation (eye removal) of Oreo's right eye. They also checked and re-checked eyes on some of the retirees.
Dr. Plummer is an expert in corneal wound healing, glaucoma, and immune mediated ocular disease. and is the Associate Professor and Chair of the department. Dr. Jimmerson is a Resident in the department and a clinician in Opthalmology Service at UF's Large Animal Hospital.
We are extremely grateful for the expertise, skill and care Dr. Plummer and Dr. Jimmerson provide for our retirees. They make a huge difference in the quality of life for these senior equines who develop serious and painful eye issues as they age.

SPRING VACCINATION TIME !
It’s the time of year when all our retirees ( currently 141) receive their yearly EWT (Eastern & Western Encephalitis + Tetanus), West Nile Virus, Rhino Virus, Influenza as well as their Rabies vaccines as important aids in the prevention of these equine diseases.
We are extremely grateful for the donation of 70 Prestige 5+WNV and 70 Equirab vaccines as vaccine donations to RHH through The Foundation for the Horse’s 2026 Horses at Risk, Equine Care + Vaccine Support Grant .."made possible through the support of donors and continued partnership with Merck Animal Health."
These vaccinations are critical for a horse’s well being and with 141 retirees needing vaccinations this donation of vaccines worth over $5,000 is a valuable contribution to RHH.
Great thanks to Elaine Young, Project Manager with Foundationforthehorse.org and Merck Animal Health for making this generous donation possible for the retirees at RHH!🐴❤
