The placenta begins forming very early in pregnancy, shortly after a fertilized egg implants into the uterus. 🌿
Throughout pregnancy, this temporary organ plays a vital role in supporting fetal development. The placenta delivers oxygen and nutrients to the baby, removes waste, produces important hormones, and helps protect the developing fetus throughout each stage of growth.
Often referred to as the baby’s “lifeline,” the placenta functions as the lungs, kidneys, and liver for the baby until birth.
After delivery, the placenta is typically discarded as medical waste. However, through donation, placental tissue can continue supporting healing through regenerative medicine and tissue-based therapies.
The science behind pregnancy is incredible, and the placenta is at the center of it all.
