Come check out our speaker this Thursday! Attorney Jarred (Jay) Welborn is running for the new district judge spot in Shelby County. He's lived in the county for a long time and knows the legal system inside and out, having been both a civil and defense attorney. You won't want to miss this, it should be interesting!

Our speaker this week is Brandon Lackey, Chief Program Officer for The Foundry. Brandon has spent more than 25 years serving individuals and families impacted by substance use disorders, homelessness, trauma, and other life-controlling challenges. As CPO of The Foundry, he is committed to creating safe, healthy, and encouraging environments where people can heal, grow, and experience permanently transformed lives.

Brandon has held leadership roles with the Alabama Rescue Services Association, Living Free Ministries, and the Association of Christian Recovery Ministries. As a founding board member of ACRM, he helped work with the Alabama Legislature to revise Alabama’s mental health laws, strengthening protections for religious and recovery choices. He also helped develop standards for certification-exempt recovery organizations that emphasize best practices, transparency, and accountability.
From 2017 to 2023, Brandon served on Governor Ivey’s Opioid Abuse and Overdose Commission and the Alabama Department of Mental Health Recovery Housing Committee.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Sciences from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of West Alabama. He manages a private counseling practice and is an ordained minister.

Meeting begins at noon on Thursday, May 7th, in Suite 108-B of the Physicians Center at Baptist Health Shelby Hospital. All are welcome. Lunch is provided.

Please be sure to attend our meeting tomorrow if you can. Our featured speaker is Hannah Adams, Miss Shelby County 2026. You won't want to miss Hannah's story of her ordeal with pediatric cancer and how she is using it as the basis of her platform to keep more kids alive and cancer-free. She has other passions to share with us as well. This will be special.

In a time when many have forgotten the threat of infectious diseases like polio, I feel a duty as a Rotary member to remind the public that polio anywhere is a threat everywhere.

Our club was proud to serve as hosts and escorts for the honorees and their guests at the Veterans Day Step Stone Ceremony at the Alabama Veterans Memorial Park in Mountain Brook. Always a great event and a truly beautiful place to visit.
