We had a great time providing breakfast for the staff at Baptist Health Shelby Hospital this morning. The crew is under extreme stress and we wanted to bring a little joy into their morning. We passed out 300 biscuits from Sneaky Pete's in less than 45 minutes!

Rotary Club of Alabaster-Pelham Donates $500 to Greater Alabama Council of Scouting America

ALABASTER-PELHAM, Ala. (August 3, 2026) — The Rotary Club of Alabaster-Pelham recently presented a $500 donation to the Shelby District of the Greater Alabama Council of Scouting America.

The contribution recognizes the organization's outstanding youth development work in Shelby County while honoring the legacy of Mr. Dick Johnson, a dedicated local Rotarian and Scout leader who heroically gave his life trying to rescue a Scout from drowning.
The donation check was bestowed at the Greater Alabama Council headquarters during a formal presentation.

Michael Jones is among the more than one million people in the U.S. living with Parkinson’s disease. According to the Parkinson’s Foundation, this progressive brain disorder affects motor skills and can disrupt daily life, including hobbies.

Jones did not let his diagnosis keep him from living fully. Instead, it led him to a new passion. After Parkinson’s forced him to retire from his IT career in 2022, he picked up a paintbrush in 2025 and began a new hobby.

Be sure to come to the meeting this week to hear the rest of his inspiring story! We meet at noon on Thursday on the first floor of the Physicians Center in Alabaster. 1010 N. 1st Street. Lunch is provided.

Our Program This Week: Kimberly Speights, Community Kitchens Birmingham.

For Kimberly M. Speights, a job is always more than a job. From founding a mentoring program for underserved girls in the neighborhood where she grew up to guiding community health initiatives that address disparities, Kimberly embraces every role as an opportunity to uplift and empower. Fueled by overcoming a complicated past, she hopes to spare others from the circumstances that once defined her.

A committed community advocate, Kimberly was the recipient of the NAACP “Outstanding Community Service” Medal in 2013, honored as an “Uncommon and Influential Woman of Faith in Alabama” by She Leads Alabama in 2023, and named “A Woman to Watch” by the Birmingham Business Journal. Her latest role is Executive Director of Community Kitchens Birmingham.
