This is what it looks like when a community believes in its young people. 💜⚡️

Yesterday, our campers stood in front of community leaders with ideas to get more kids in Akron moving. They spoke with confidence, answered tough questions, and reminded all of us that great ideas have no age limit.

Each team received an investment in their idea. Then something unexpected happened. Our Sharks committed to working together to secure sponsorships so every team’s vision can be fully brought to life.

Thank you to Sharon Connor, Jon Ashley, Jasmina Waters, and Denico Buckley Knight for investing your time, wisdom, and belief into our campers.

One of our goals at Camp MOVE has always been to create opportunities where young people can lead. Yesterday was a reminder that when we make room for their voices, they’ll rise to the occasion every single time.

The spotlight was never meant to stay on the adults who built the stage. It belongs to the young leaders who stepped onto it.

Akron’s future is in good hands. 💜

Three weeks ago, Camp MOVE began with one big question:

How can we use sports and STEAM to get more kids in Akron moving? 💜⚡️

Today, our campers answered it.

They stood before their families, community leaders, and one another with confidence, sharing ideas they believe can make Akron better.

Today’s showcase wasn’t just a celebration of everything they did—it was a celebration of who they became.

The smiles in these photos are more than a picture. They’re what believing in young people looks like. 💜

One last field trip. A thousand more memories. 💜⚡️

Derby Downs was the perfect place to celebrate the final adventure before our Camp MOVE Showcase.

Tomorrow, our campers take the biggest stage of the summer—not to talk about what they learned, but to show the confidence, creativity, and leadership they’ve built along the way.

The finish line is here… and we couldn’t be more excited for what’s next.

literacy looked different…

The day began with movement as our guest yoga instructor reminded us that a healthy mind starts with a healthy body. Then Bright Star Books transformed Camp MOVE into a book fair, where every camper discovered stories that matched their interests and left with books to call their own.

But the pages didn’t stop there.

Campers explored sports and STEM through literacy, reflected on their summer by writing heartfelt letters to next year’s Camp MOVE campers, shared lunch and recess with the Akron Police Department, and ended the day putting the finishing touches on ideas they’ll soon present to some of Akron’s community leaders.

Today reminded us that literacy isn’t just about learning to read.

It’s about discovering new ideas, telling your own story, and believing your voice is worth hearing. 💜⚡️

People will see the smiles.
They’ll see the field trips.
They’ll see the sports.
They’ll see the activities.

What they may not see is what’s happening underneath it all.

Confidence is growing. Leaders are emerging. Fears are becoming firsts. Big ideas are turning into solutions for our city.

We’re grateful to Spectrum News for helping tell a piece of the Camp MOVE story and for shining a light on the incredible work happening through the 5th Quarter Initiative.

The best part isn’t that we made the news. It’s seeing young people discover that their ideas matter and that they can help shape the future of Akron.

That’s the story we’ll never stop telling. 💜⚡️
