When the colorful lights come down, the festive parties come to an end, the world moves on, hunger stays. It waits in quiet kitchens with empty cupboards. It follows children home from school — kids who put on a brave smile all day, hoping their friends don't notice their growling stomachs only to feel like they have to keep that brave smile on at home because they don't want to "burden" their already stressed parents.
Some children don’t wonder what’s for dinner — they wonder if there will be dinner at all.
Spartan Snack Pack and Pantry is there in those moments.
Every weekend, we send food home with children who rely on school meals during the week. And every month, we open our pantry doors to families who never imagined they would need to ask for help — parents who just want to feed their kids, families doing everything they can, working harder than ever before and seeming like no matter how hard they try still not being able to make ends meet.
There are no holiday meals waiting for them in February. No extra help in the long stretch of summer. Just need. Month after month. Weekend after weekend.
For some it may seem small, but to a child it means being able to actually smile not just putting on the brave one. To a parent, it means relief from being overwhelmed and worried, and one more reminder that someone sees them, and refuses to let them face this alone.
This is not a seasonal problem. It is a year-round reality.
And these families are depending on us — quietly, humbly, and desperately.
