DLM Food and Resources

DLM Food and Resources provides food, clothing, diapers and additional resources to families in crisis. It is offered in memory of Debra Lynn Manteghi.

We work closely with community partners to meet needs of families . We believe in being genuine people delivering heart-felt service. DLM Food and Resources is a joint project of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Akron Public Schools’ Project Rise. It serves homeless students and their families primarily by providing food (a need identified by Project Rise), as well as access to other helpful inf

ormation. Debra Manteghi was a Holy Trinity member who was a well-respected presence in the city of Akron and an advocate for homeless families in the community. She started Akron Public Schools’ Project Rise over 20 years ago. She recently passed away and this project was born through relationships formed during her end of life care. The name “Dare to Love More” comes from her initials D.L.M. and honors her challenge to care and advocate for those on the margins.

It was a beautiful day for a cookout with our unsheltered neighbors. On the menu, we had steaks, potato salad, rolls, corn, and Nothing Bundt Cakes, along with various sodas, water, and coffee.

Thank you to the Walsh graduates, Hudson Service Learning Students, and of course our DLM team, along with our volunteer from Faith Lutheran Church. Thank you also to Holy Trinity Lutheran for providing the beautiful garden for our community. We had 88 people who decided to come and sit in the garden with us to enjoy soft music, food, and fellowship, as well as those who preferred to take to-go boxes. We also delivered the remaining meals to those who were unable to come pick them up.

DLM’S "Christmas in July" event was this past weekend it was a wonderful success! We had a fantastic turnout, with 42 adults and 82 children in attendance.

It was a joy to see families and children playing games, participating in crafts with prizes, and enjoying the face painting and snow cone machines. The Caribbean steel drum music in the garden provided a wonderful atmosphere, and the surprise visit from Santa—who brought stuffed animals for all the children—was a highlight for everyone.

I want to extend a sincere thank you to our volunteers, Thank you, each of you for your hard work. You helped make this such a fun and memorable event for our community, and we truly could not have done it without your support!

I wanted to share the wonderful art workshop, which DLM hosted in partnership with Project Rise.

It was truly an amazing event with 41 people in attendance. Dray Evans worked closely with the participants aged 6 and up, while Artist, Cherelle Iverson, worked with the adults and our volunteers. The atmosphere was perfect, and everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly. The level of creativity that was displayed throughout the session was unbelievable.

Thank you to everyone who made this event such a success.

What a wonderful success the DLM Hip-hop dance work shop was. It was a great time for everyone involved, and families were able to do more than just crafts and enjoy dinner together—they DANCED! Families and community partners shared that it was the best way to end the school year, and it was incredible to see not just the children, but the adults participating as well.

I want to extend a huge thank you to Sam McIntosh and his team Movement. They did an amazing job warming everyone up and explaining the purpose of expression through dance, as well as the importance of community, unity, and positive support. We can’t wait to bring them back. As Project Rise said, the families rocked it!!

Thank you to Rachel Breece and Prospect Rise for the giveaways. I also want to thank Amanda Smith from Ohio Rise, Kelly Martin, and Brent Saunders for greeting our families. A special thanks to the behind-the-scenes crew: Olivia Bass and Michael from Summit DD, and Shelby Stark from DD for setup and creating such an inviting and welcoming atmosphere. Finally, thank you to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for providing us with a safe space to gather.

It's all in the hands—warm hands, loving hands, and serving hands.

DLM had the honor of serving our neighbors alongside the service learning students from Hudson. It was truly a great day of togetherness, and we are grateful for the opportunity to work together in support of our community.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Chick-fil-A for the breakfast sandwiches and fruit bowls, Starbucks for the coffee, and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for the cereal. Because of your generosity, we were able to feed 93 unsheltered neighbors and friends.

Thank you Sons of Italy - Akron Lodge for your donation towards shoes. What a great group of people! We started getting new shoes for the kids in our community.

Our recent cupcake event was a sweet sensation! We had 40 people in attendance, and it was wonderful to see the families work together to create beautiful cupcakes under the instruction of a local baker from Little Loves Bakery. In addition to the decorating, families enjoyed dinner, colored together, and even participated in a game of cupcake bingo.

I would like to extend a big thank you to our baker, Jennifer Shaver, and to Project Rise for collaborating with us on this event. Thank you to all of our volunteers for your hard work, and a special thank you to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for providing such a safe and welcoming atmosphere for us to gather.

DLM expresses our deepest gratitude to all the wonderful members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for your continued faithfulness and support.

The church has been incredibly generous, donating over 300 boxes of cereal along with pasta, peanut butter, jelly, and jars of pasta sauce. Furthermore, your commitment to donating your time to help prepare our box experience, filled with fresh produce and meats, is truly inspiring.
