The Big Love Network is inspired to build bridges and spark creative collaborations across socioeconomic and cultural barriers. The core of the network consists of organizers, permaculturists, healing practitioners, and artists that facilitate neighbor-led, creative peacemaking, sustainability, and health equity efforts throughout Akron as a means for social change.

***CALL TO ACTION: KEEP PUBLIC COMMENT IN EPA AIR-POLLUTION PERMITTING***
In Akron, we are no strangers to public comments. We have used them to fight for our neighborhoods, challenge polluters, and make sure the people living on the fenceline have a voice in decisions that affect their health.
The Trump administration’s EPA is proposing to remove public notice and comment requirements for certain minor-source air pollution permits.
We need you to tell the EPA: KEEP PUBLIC COMMENT FOR MINOR-SOURCE POLLUTION.

to when we use to run zero wate for local festivals! We still have a how to guide on our website. We are so over the moon that Rubber City Reuse does this now. Shout out to RCR for talking all the trash at HSNA PorchRokr this last weekend! 40 people sorting trash 😍 yall are super stars!!! Zero waste effort can be a huge undertaking at large events but smaller events are a lot easier than realized. Check out our guide online to see how your events can become more focused on zero waste. Also in hindsight remember that incineration and “advanced/chemical recycling” are polluting our community heavily and making people sick so if someone like TerraCycle US says they can recycle your hard to recycle plastic, don’t believe them. Burning plastic is far more dangerous than the landfill. Instead reduce and use reuse containers instead of single use plastic.

While everyone needs clean air, water, food, and soil to survive, wellness is created by so many different contributing factors. The Big Love Newtwork would like to invite you to think about a multitude of what wellness means. What are some surprising ways to think about wellness that you haven’t explored? Remeber when we helped organize the Innerbelt Reunion? Now we are elated to help the Akron Rights of Passage Institute on their farming initiative when the Akron Legacy Building gets built.

The building of RT 59 through the Black Jazz District is one of the largest environmentally racist things our city has done. It is critical to stand with our black leaders as they continue to demand that justice be found!

The Innerbelt Reunion was a key turning point in ensuring our black leaders sit at the head of the table as the city figures out what to do with the decommissioned part of the highway. Thank you to everyone help bring it together!

AFD is continuing to address the fire at Holub Recycling, 470 N Arlington Street. The source of the fire is trash and other rubbish. Residents should still avoid the area of N Arlington Street between North/Home Avenue and N Forge Street. Dense Smoke is present in some areas to the south of N Arlington towards E Market Street and to the east in the direction of Bank Street and Case Avenue. The shelter in place has been lifted. Residents should consider avoiding excessive outdoor activity for the next twelve hours.
