Today, the No. 1 issue facing the veteran community is su***de. The mission of The American Legion's Be The One initiative is to reduce the rate of veteran su***de. We're actively working on lessening the stigma associated with mental health treatment and empowering everyone to take appropriate action when a veteran or service member may be at risk – one life at a time.
The training in LeMars on Wed. Nov. 19th is recommended for American Legion members. It is also open to members of the public actively interested in su***de prevention. Please join us!
The trainer is QPR-certified (Question, Persuade, Refer).

The Memorial Day program in City Park is underway. As part of the program, several families are dedicating flags in memory of their beloved veterans. The beauty of the 500+ memorial flags is on display at the at the City Park and at Riverside Cemetery. Displaying the majority of the flags at Riverside Cemetery will continue each Memorial Day.

Post 186 thanks each and every one of you who helped with the monumental task today, Monday, May 26th to load up, erect, take down, and put away approximately 500 large memorial flags dedicated to local veterans. The outdoor display time was cut a bit short by the rain this afternoon, but we want to keep each veteran’s flag in excellent condition for many years to come.

This was the first year the flags were displayed at both the City Park AND at Riverside Cemetery. Thank you for your part in erecting this awe-inspiring display of the Stars and Stripes!
