We always look forward to these volunteer days. This team brings such positive energy, hard work, and enthusiasm to every project. Their continued support helps us keep Akron beautiful one flower bed at a time, and we are so grateful for the time and care they dedicate to our community.

The ABCs of Trees! 🌳

Trees aren’t just vital for us today, they’re essential for future generations. By educating our community now, we’re helping inspire the next generation of tree stewards who will care for, protect, and benefit from these trees for years to come.

Each week, we’ll highlight a new letter of the alphabet, sharing a tree-related word and what it means because understanding trees helps us better appreciate and care for them.

This week’s letter is R for Respiration: The process in plants by which carbohydrates are converted into energy by using oxygen.

We were pleased to attend as our Vice Board Chair, Deputy Chief Dave Laughlin of the Akron Police Department, presented outstanding Officer and KAB volunteer Aaron Brown with a Deputy Chief Commendation Award in recognition of his unwavering support and contributions to Keep Akron Beautiful and the Akron community as a whole.

If you’ve attended a litter cleanup, or quite frankly, any KAB event, you know Officer Brown. Not only does he help patrol and keep everyone safe, but he also jumps right in, gets his hands dirty, and works alongside volunteers to help create a cleaner, greener Akron.

There is truly no one more deserving of this recognition, and we are incredibly grateful for Aaron’s continued dedication to our community.

It was such a pleasure working with the amazing crew from Akron Station 4 Fire Department Akron Fire Department ! 🚒🌳 Not only do they serve our community every day, but they also got their hands dirty helping plant two peach trees right on their lawn.

A huge thank you as well to Jim & Keith from The Davey Tree Expert Company for leading the planting and demonstrating the proper techniques every step of the way. We’re so grateful for board member, Ana Burns of Davey and everyone who helped make this project possible and for the continued commitment to keeping our community greener and stronger!

Yesterday we had the pleasure of joining our wonderful friends from Keep America Beautiful in Cleveland for a meeting and training session with the City of Cleveland Department of Public Works as they explore becoming a Keep Cleveland Beautiful initiative under the Keep America Beautiful affiliate program.

We had the opportunity to hear an incredible training session from Mallory Coffey and Kanika Greenlee, and our very own Executive Director Jacqui Ricchiuti shared about the impactful work we are doing here in Akron. We also heard from our Keep Ohio Beautiful state leader Mike Mennett.

We are so appreciative of Rosemary Gramajo-Quiñones and Orensel Brumfield from the Department of Public Works in Cleveland, and we are so excited to watch this initiative grow and flourish just 45 minutes away as they begin the process of becoming a Keep America Beautiful affiliate.

It was wonderful hearing so many different perspectives in the room; from community volunteers, city representatives, and individuals working alongside elected officials. We also finally had the pleasure of meeting The Trash Boys who are already doing incredible work throughout the city of Cleveland.

We are so excited to work alongside our friends in Cleveland and can’t wait to see what the future brings!

Keep Akron Beautiful had an amazing night with the Akron RubberDucks⚾️🧢

We had such a great time enjoying an exciting game at 717 Credit Union Park. A huge thank you to Roy and the entire team for such a wonderful experience and for giving us the opportunity to be part of such a fun evening. We had an absolute blast!
