Reminder: Our Final Fall Cleanup of 2026 Is This Saturday! 🍂

Join Keep Akron Beautiful and Councilwoman Jan Davis for our final fall cleanup of the year! Let’s come together to keep Akron clean, green, and beautiful as we wrap up another season of community cleanups.

KAB will provide all the necessary cleanup supplies, so bring a friend, lend a hand, and help us finish our fall cleanup season strong!

We are getting excited because November is approaching and November is America Recycles Month! ♻️

Led by Keep America Beautiful, America Recycles Day is celebrated every year on November 15 and is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to celebrating recycling. Throughout November, we're encouraged to learn more about recycling, reduce waste, and make sustainable choices at home, school, work, and in our communities.

Recycling helps keep valuable materials out of landfills, conserves natural resources, saves energy, reduces pollution, and supports local economies. Just as important, recycling correctly helps ensure materials can be turned into new products instead of ending up as waste.

Keep Akron Beautiful is proud to celebrate with Keep America Beautiful® to promote smarter recycling, waste reduction, and resource conservation. Together, we can !

As the growing season comes to a close, we want to give a special shoutout to the ATA Tools team for all their hard work at the Hardesty Park pollinator garden! 🌼

Led by group leader Timothy Shannon, this dedicated team showed up month after month to care for and maintain the garden, helping keep this beautiful space thriving for our community and local pollinators. As Timothy shared, he IS (and we are) incredibly proud of the work his team accomplished throughout the season!

At Keep Akron Beautiful, we are so grateful for all of our Adopt-A-Site volunteers who dedicate their time, energy, and care to beautifying Akron. Your commitment makes a lasting difference in our neighborhoods, and we couldn’t do it without you!

🎃 45 Years. 45 Ways. One Beautiful Akron! 🌿

As part of our campaign celebrating 45 years of Keep Akron Beautiful, we’re challenging our community to choose one more way to make October a little more sustainable!

We promised to share some sustainable Halloween tips and tricks, and thanks to Keep America Beautiful, we have some great ideas to help you celebrate while being kind to the planet. From reusing decorations and choosing eco-friendly costumes to reducing candy wrapper waste, there are plenty of ways to make this spooky season a little greener! 👻

✨ This October, make a sustainable choice, celebrate Halloween responsibly, and show us how you’re making a difference! Be sure to tag Keep Akron Beautiful and use to share your sustainable acts with us.

What a great day at Windemere Community Learning Center!

We had the joy of speaking with students about recycling and the importance of recycling the right way, both in the classroom and at home. ♻️ We loved the opportunity to help these students learn how small actions can make a big difference and encourage them to become the next generation of environmental stewards! 🌱

We were also joined by our friend Ben from Rubber City Reuse who talked about the benefits of composting! We are so grateful for the opportunity to connect with these students and share the importance of protecting our environment.

We had such a wonderful time visiting the residents at St. Ed's Assisted Living in Fairlawn!

Our Executive Director, Jacqui Ricchiuti, shared a little about the work Keep Akron Beautiful does throughout our community, along with recycling tips and creative ways to reuse everyday household items.

Then, we put those ideas into action with a little friendly competition! Residents got creative wrapping gifts using recycled and repurposed materials. 🎁 Jacqui had the tough job of choosing the best-wrapped gift, and our lucky winner received a prize!

What a fun way to show that reusing everyday materials can be creative, festive, and good for the environment!

A big THANK YOU to St. Ed’s Assisted Living for inviting us! We loved spending time with your residents and seeing all their creativity!

🌳 The ABCs of Trees! 🌳

By educating our community today, we’re helping inspire the next generation of tree stewards who will care for, protect, and benefit from these incredible trees for years to come.

And the best part? These are all trees you can find right here in our city!

This week’s letter is I for Inkberry Tree! The Inkberry Tree is a small evergreen holly shrub or small tree native to the coastal plains of eastern North America. It features glossy, dark green leaves that provide year-round color and visual interest, along with small black berries that appear in the fall and often persist into winter.

Unlike many other hollies, inkberry has smooth-edged leaves without spines, giving it a softer, more understated appearance.

A huge thank you to Barberton Tree Service Inc. for taking us through the whole alphabet of trees again in such a fun and engaging way!

We’re so grateful for your continued partnership and collaboration as we work together to keep Akron clean, green, and beautiful.

🌷 From spring blooms to fall colors, Connie and Ken Ingram have been caring for their Adopt-a-Site at Twin Oaks and Mayfield Ave for nearly 40 years! 🌿

What started as a garden they cared for together has grown into a family and neighborhood tradition. Their kids now help with planting, and when Connie and Ken go on vacation, neighbors pitch in to keep everything watered. 💚

With perennials blooming at different times in the back and annuals in the front, they switch things up every year or two to keep the garden fresh and beautiful throughout the seasons.

A huge thank you to Connie and Ken for their decades of dedication to keeping Akron beautiful, and to their family and neighbors who help this special spot continue to thrive! 🌼

This before and after post from our Miller Ave. cleanup with Leadership Akron deserves its own spotlight.

Just one week before this cleanup, our KAB staff had already cleaned up this exact spot. When we returned with the Leadership Akron class, the area had accumulated a mattress, hundreds of VHS tapes, cartons of milk, clothing, a chair, and so much more.

Together, we were able to get the space cleaned up again, but it is disheartening to see how quickly litter and illegal dumping can undo the hard work of our crews and volunteers.

Keeping Akron beautiful takes all of us. Every cleanup makes a difference, but lasting change starts with all of us doing our part to keep our community clean.
